4 August 2023: Week 2 - Term 3
Kaurna acknowledgement
Niina Marni. As we feel the earth beneath us, the wind around us and the sun above us, we acknowledge the Kaurna people, the traditional owners of this land. We pay our respects to past Elders and will work with present and emerging Elders to protect and care for this unique land of ours. We also extend this respect to other First Nations peoples.
Principal's Report
Dear families,
Greening Committee
The first meeting of the Greening Committee will be scheduled in the next fortnight with the first actions planned; an audit of the school grounds, identifying spaces to plant more vegetation and reinvigorating the play areas. The Greening Committee comprises of; Governing Council representatives, parents, Enzo, (our groundsman), Year 6 Green Leaders and interested staff, who will develop a plan that identifies a range of spaces and plant species to expand our green canopy. Researching sustainable vegetation that complements our play areas will be a key focus for the group.
Parent Survey
Each year the Department for Education provides families with opportunity to provide schools with feedback. The 2023 Parent Engagement Survey has been launched this week, closing on the 27 August 2023.
From the 328 responses in 2022, last years’ survey provided feedback that was on the whole, appreciative of the work that the LPPS staff do to support and develop each and every child to achieve their best. There were some areas where feedback was provided regarding the following aspects:
Knowing how to support children at home – 85 parents
School Communicates effectively – 52 parents are seeking improvement
Alongside our Governing Council, we have provided Q&A on Hay forums that are responsive to parent requests including Cyber security and Literacy Forums that support reading at home programs. We are currently redeveloping our Communication policy to include the many online platforms that have been introduced through the COVID experience.
Mathematicians in the making
Our curious Receptions of Room 14, guided by Hilary Perryman, have been collecting and analysing data to answer questions about community. “How many cars are there in our staff car parks?’, ‘What is the most popular colour?’, ‘What do we eat for breakfast?’ are examples of student wonderings that the class have been answering through their data collection.
Using a tallying method, the students were able to collect, collate and present information using a graph format. They were then able to answer questions, posed against their original predictions, using real life contexts.
Students found out that cereal is the most popular breakfast and there were 49 cars in the staff carparks with grey the most represented colour.

Year Six - Readers' Cup
Our annual Readers' Cup (Year 6 students) was held in the last week of Term two. Fourteen teams entered the competition. Well done to all of the teams that participated!
The Readers' Cup required the students (in teams) to read five pre-selected books and then participate in quiz style series of questions about the chosen books.
The winning team of the Readers' Cup was "The Furries". The team consisted of Sriya, Lara, Dinithi and Courtney.
The 'Furries' scored an amazing 44½ out of 50! The winning team travelled to Pegi Williams Bookshop to select their own book prizes as well as selecting books for our school library. The winning team's name was also placed onto the Readers' Cup trophy.

The visit focused on engaging students by getting up close to animals while communicating important science and sustainability themes directly related to the Australian Curriculum. Students also had the opportunity to walk around the zoo in small groups observing animal’s features and characteristics.
Year 1: Marine Discovery Excursion
