Kaurna acknowledgement
Niina Marni. As we feel the earth beneath us, the wind around us and the sun above us, we acknowledge the Kaurna people, the traditional owners of this land. We pay our respects to past Elders and will work with present and emerging Elders to protect and care for this unique land of ours. We also extend this respect to other First Nations peoples.
Principal's Report
Dear Parents and Guardians,
NAPLAN 2023
Based on advice from DfE, 2023 NAPLAN results are considered baseline data and are not comparable with previous years. The graphs below provide us with feedback, indicating a strong performance across all domains but also assisting us to identify areas for improvement. From our analysis we note that from Year 3 to Year 5 there is an increase in the number of students achieving in the Exceeding proficiency in Literacy domains and comparable results in the Numeracy domain.
The four different proficiency levels and what each one signifies:
- Needs additional support (Proficiency Level 1): This level reflects a basic understanding of the year-level content and a capacity to apply this knowledge in some familiar contexts.
- Developing (Proficiency Level 2): At this level, students have demonstrated a mastery of the foundational skills and can respond effectively to a range of questions and problems relevant to their year level.
- Strong (Proficiency Level 3): This level signifies a high competency in year-level content, and students can analyse, interpret, and apply their understanding across a wide range of challenging contexts.
- Exceeding (Proficiency Level 4): The highest proficiency level denotes a distinguished understanding and application of skills and knowledge. These students demonstrate superior problem-solving abilities and can critically analyse and respond to complex issues aligned with their year level and beyond.
As always, we endeavour to provide the best possible education to our students.
Thank you for your ongoing support.
Class Placement 2024
We are entering the first phase of the 2024 class placement process; families will be sent an Edsmart slip asking you to share with your child’s teacher any current or historical clashes between individual children that may impact their learning environment.
Teachers will work with students to establish their three preferred friends.
‘Welcome and well wishes’
Many of our families are aware that Hilary Perryman, Reception teacher in Room 14, is ready to take her maternity leave for the remainder of the year; we wish her all the very best and can’t wait to meet the newest addition to her family.
I would also like to welcome and introduce the newest member of our team, Amelia (Milly) Dutton who is already known to the children of Room 14. Amelia and Hilary have been working closely together to ensure that the learning routines, behavioural code and expectations remain consistent during the transition.
Early Years Assembly Awards: Friday 18 August 2023
Congratulations to all the students listed below, who demonstrated the Learner Profile Attributes this past fortnight in R-6.

Book Week 2023: 'Read, Grow, Inspire'
Book Week celebrations started early for the Year 4 to 6 students when they all enjoyed an author session with Oliver Phommavanh.
Oliver loved to make the audience laugh as he shared his passion for writing with the students. Oliver has performed at various comedy and writers' festivals around Australia and Asia. His recent books include Brain Freeze, Don't Follow Vee, Natural Born Loser and What about Thao. He is best known for Thai-riffic!, Con-nerd and The Other Christy.
The students (and teachers) thoroughly enjoyed his sessions!

‘Tell Helen’ Commissioner’s Student Voice Postcards
Helen Connolly, South Australia’s Commissioner for Children and Young People, runs an annual Student Voice Postcard initiative, allowing primary school children a chance to have their voices heard about what matters to them. The initiative is in its fifth year, with 16,007 students from 326 South Australian schools participating in 2022.
This year, 100 students throughout the LPPS community have taken part in this initiative, sharing their insight into what is important to them, what aspirations do they have, what are they most worried about, and what they would change about their lives if they could.
National Day of Action against Bullying and Violence
Today is the National Day of Action against Bullying and Violence. This year’s theme is ‘Growing Connections,’ supporting the research findings that indicate that strong school community connections and social skills help prevent bullying.
To acknowledge this important date, the Year 6 Student Wellbeing Leaders created a digital assembly for classes to watch. As a school, we are in the process of creating a collaborative artwork to pledge our commitment to standing against bullying.
As a parent, it can be challenging to know how to respond if your child is being bullied.
Kids Helpline has the following suggestions:
- Talk regularly about school, their friendships and anything that might be troubling them.
- Ask them directly if they're being bullied and let them know you want to work together to help stop it.
- Discuss your own experiences of being bullied and how you got through it.
- Encourage them to call Kids Helpline and talk to a counsellor.

Tri Skills: Years 5 & 6
In the first four weeks of Term 3, all Year 5 and Year 6 students have been taking part in Tri Skills as part of the movement composition section of PYP Physical Education. Gymnastics is part of our Years 5 and 6 PE program and for the delivery of this; we draw on the expertise of Tri Skills. Their involvement makes the specialist sport of gymnastics fun, safe and exciting. Tri Skills’ highly skilled and experienced coaches use modified equipment and carefully structured, progressive lessons to ensure all children are provided with the opportunity to achieve the key learning objectives described in the Australian Curriculum.
The experiences in this program have been classified into the Dominant Movement patterns to provide a sequential framework for teaching gymnastics: Statics, Landing, Spring, Rotation Swing and Locomotion. Tri Skills brings an extensive range of high quality matting, soft vaults, mini tramps, beam, bars, springboards and wedges all of which cannot be provided by individual schools, but are invaluable in delivering the program. All students will be working on an assessment piece for PE marks in this time.

SAPSASA Basketball – Year 5/6 Boys & Girls
On Wednesday 9 August, Linden Park Primary School had both a girls and a boys knockout basketball team compete in the School Sport SA Statewide Year 5/6 Basketball Carnival held at the brand new State Basketball Centre in Wayville.
Both teams had been trialling and training for a number of weeks and 16 players were awarded selection to represent Linden Park Primary School. It was an action-packed day, with the boys playing eight games and the girls playing seven games against other primary schools around Adelaide.
The boys won their first five matches and finished equal second in their group. Unfortunately, due to a count back on points, the boys missed out on a spot in the final and finished third in their group. The girl's team also had a successful carnival winning over half of their matches and finishing the day in style, winning their last match by close to 15 points.
A massive thank you to all the students for all their hard work and effort at the carnival. The boys and girls had a great time and showed a lot of support to one another. Both teams played the game with terrific sportsmanship and should be proud of their efforts. A special thank you for the tremendous support from the parents who volunteered and assisted on the day. The school and the students really appreciate it.

SA Primary School Table Tennis Tournament
On Friday 11 August, Linden Park Primary had 20 students represent the school at the SA Primary Schools Table Tennis competition held in Newton. Trials took place way back in Term 1 and the tournament finally arrived, so the students were extra prepared for the carnival.
Linden Park had four boys’ teams and one girls’ team that participated in a round robin format against teams from Highgate Primary School and Marryatville Primary School. The format allowed the students to play a doubles and a singles match against each team, which culminated to a busy schedule.
All teams should be super proud of their efforts and at the end of the carnival, the girls team consisting of Jiorjana P, Abby R, Savithi W and Yifei L finished second overall while the boys team of Akira O, Tommy C, Harry J and Martin K finished with bronze.
Congratulations to all teams on an impressive performance.
