Kaurna acknowledgement
Niina Marni. As we feel the earth beneath us, the wind around us and the sun above us, we acknowledge the Kaurna people, the traditional owners of this land. We pay our respects to past Elders and will work with present and emerging Elders to protect and care for this unique land of ours. We also extend this respect to other First Nations peoples.
Principal's Report
Dear Parents and Families,
Wednesday saw the first of the Learning Journeys for 2023; the Year 3 classrooms were well supported by our families with energy levels that were tangible. Students took intense pride in sharing their work with adults, relishing the opportunity to share the ‘thinking’ (key concepts) and research skills they have developed in during the Unit of Inquiry.
For our Year 3’s, ‘Sharing the Planet’ gave students scope to use classifying vocabulary to describe a selected animal and identify the connections to the environments in which they live.
Road Safety
Community members are alerting our school about the unsafe road safety behaviours of our students. Reports about young children unescorted on scooters riding on main roads, children crossing roads whilst on phones, not using the road crossing and walking out from between cars; are all reports, received expressing the utmost concern for our children.
This week teachers have attended a road crossing training run by SAPOL; they have advised that before children and families enter the crossing, monitors will, inform that 'it’s safe to cross'.
Teachers are reminding children of the importance of road safety; can I ask parents to reinforce these safe practices to keep everyone safe.
STEM Week – help wanted
In response to parent feedback, we are endeavouring to raise the profile of Science/Stem. Working with the Governing Council Student Learning & Wellbeing Committee, we will be holding a STEM Week in Term 4 with activities designed to promote children’s curiosity about ‘How the World Works' and 'Sharing the Planet'.
Activities will be held for younger students at lunch time and the format for the primary years is still being determined. The committee is interested to hear if there are any parents or organisations that would like to volunteer their time and expertise to this week. This could be in the form of running an experiment, showcasing information or helping our staff to run activities at lunchtime. A note asking for your interest will be sent out in forthcoming weeks.
Winter Food Drive – LPPS Ambassadors
Early in Week 4, on Tuesday the 15th and Wednesday the 16th of August, we, the Year 6 Ambassadors, organised and held a food drive. Our charity of choice was OzHarvest. We managed to donate so much food! We would like to thank everyone who donated for doing so, as they helped so many less fortunate people. If you would like to learn more about OzHarvest, or want to donate to them, please check out this link: https://www.ozharvest.org/
Thank you, everyone for all your help,
Nishka Bothra on behalf of the other Year 6 Ambassadors

Wellbeing News
Prime Hydration Drinks
LPPS strongly discourages the consumption of Prime Hydration drinks among students to promote a healthy and focused learning environment.
When it comes to children’s health, it is important to consult with a paediatrician or healthcare professional for specific advice regarding hydration and nutrition. In general, hydration drinks marketed for adults may not be suitable for children, as their nutritional needs and tolerances can differ.
If a child is engaged in intense physical activity, a paediatrician may recommend a paediatric electrolyte solution specifically formulated for children. These solutions are designed to replenish electrolytes and fluids lost during physical exertion or illness.
Many students are bringing empty Prime Hydration bottles to school, using them as water bottles. As you can imagine this creates difficulty as to whether the contents were consumed onsite or before arriving. It may seem over reaching but staff would appreciate it if students left these bottles at home. We’ve already had some taken, causing upset to individuals.
It is important for students to prioritise their overall well-being and choose healthier alternatives such as water, herbal teas, or natural fruit juices to stay hydrated and maintain energy levels throughout the day.
Pastoral Care Worker
Tegan Jolly has been working as the LPPS Pastoral Care Worker since the start of 2023. Recently, she has had the opportunity to start her own private practice as a counselor.
Whilst we await the appointment of a new Pastoral Care Worker, Tegan will continue to support students at LPPS on Wednesdays.
Congratulations Tegan on this exciting change in your career!

(SAPSASA) Year 5/6 Soccer
On Friday 25 August, the Year 5/6 Linden Park Primary School Knockout Soccer team engaged in their second-round matchup in the Statewide Knockout Soccer Competition. Our opponents for the day were Magill Primary, Fulham North Primary and Holy Family Catholic School. The team was well aware that securing victories in all games was crucial to ensure their advancement to the next round.
The matches took place at Collins Reserve, hosted by Fulham United Soccer Club. In the first match, Linden Park faced off against Holy Family in a closely contested battle. Both teams had their fair share of opportunities, yet neither could capitalise on them to find the elusive goal. As the clock ticked away, a nil-all draw seemed inevitable. However, fate took an unfortunate turn for LPPS as Holy Family seized a moment and managed to take the lead, resulting in a 1-0 victory for them.
Following a brief break before their next encounter, the boys were scheduled to compete against Magill Primary School, who had emerged victorious in their earlier match. The game unfolded in a similar fashion, with both teams locked in a tight struggle, unable to break free from the stalemate. The final whistle blew, signalling a goalless draw and leading the match to be decided by a penalty shootout. Rallying his players, Mr. Moss orchestrated a selection of five students to take the crucial penalties. The penalty shootout was a spectacle to behold, showcasing remarkable skill and nerve. Ultimately, Magill Primary managed to secure a victory through penalties.
The day's ultimate challenge came in the form of a match against Fulham North Primary School. With the accumulation of multiple matches and the warm weather influencing the energy levels, both sides displayed relentless determination. Despite Linden Park's unrelenting efforts, Fulham North emerged as the victors, bringing an end to an eventful day of soccer.
We extend our heartfelt appreciation to all the players who exhibited commendable dedication in reaching this stage of the competition.
A special acknowledgment goes out to Coach Rob Moss, for his consistent guidance through weekly training sessions, which undoubtedly brought out the best in the team. Thank you to the parents who provided support and cheered the team on tirelessly, the school and students really appreciate it. Lastly, we commend every player who contributed to the team's efforts. This dynamic group of students highlighted tremendous resilience and commitment. The journey ahead holds exciting prospects for these individuals, and we eagerly anticipate their continued growth in soccer.

LPPS Year 6 Grey Progress to Semi Finals
Congratulations are in order for the LPPS Year 6 Grey team, whose exceptional performance in the minor round debating season has earned them a spot among the top eight debating teams. With 130 teams participating from across Adelaide, our team has truly stood out, securing their position in the quarterfinals.
The quarter finals, held on Thursday 31 August at Nazareth College, posed an exciting challenge. Our team was drawn to face St Mary’s College, a formidable opponent that had clinched the top spot on the ladder after the season’s conclusion. The debate topic, 'That self-service at supermarkets is a good idea', added an intriguing layer to the competition. Assigned a negative position, the LPPS team demonstrated their prowess in a high impressive debate.
As the debate unfolded, the adjudicator remarked, “Finals bring out the best speakers,” a sentiment that resonated with the captivating discourse presented by both teams. In the end, LPPS emerged victorious, their strong arguments and persuasive techniques securing their triumph.
Their achievement is nothing short of fantastic, underscoring the dedication and skill of our team members. Their remarkable journey continues as they advance to the semi-finals, scheduled for Thursday 7 September. The Linden Park Primary School community extends congratulations and well wishes as they prepare for their next debate.
Interschool Debating – Debating SA
As we reach the end of the season, I would like to recognise the terrific accomplishment of our debating teams. Their consistent hard work and dedication displayed each week has been a joy to watch.
The commitment to refining their argumentative skills and willingness to engage in rigorous debates have undeniably elevated the quality of their speeches. Giving up their recess time each Monday in preparation for their debates on a Tuesday evening is commendable.
Debating is not just about presenting arguments, it is about fostering critical thinking, learning to articulate ideas effectively and understanding diverse viewpoints. As we commend our debaters for their achievements, I would also like to acknowledge the crucial support provided by their parents through the season.
Thank you for your dedication, resilience, and the positive reflection you have all had on Linden Park Primary this year.
