Kaurna acknowledgement

Niina Marni. As we feel the earth beneath us, the wind around us and the sun above us, we acknowledge the Kaurna people, the traditional owners of this land. We pay our respects to past Elders and will work with present and emerging Elders to protect and care for this unique land of ours. We also extend this respect to other First Nations peoples.
Principal's Report

Fiona Voigt, Principal
Dear Families
2023 is fast disappearing: Sports days, Excursions to Monarto and Aldinga, Reception transition are fast approaching with Graduation and End of Year Assembly on the horizon.
Teachers are busily shaping the final Units of Inquiry for the year, starting to write reports and at the same time we are preparing for 2024.
Celebrating Success
Congratulations to all students and staff who participated in last Terms’ Year 6 PYP Exhibition. The passion that was evident in students' presentations was energising. It was wonderful to see the amazing efforts and enthusiasm that went into the children's projects and to discuss with students their learning over the Term.
Likewise the Learning Journey’s that were shared with families were indicative of the creativity and depth of learning that students have engaged in.
The outstanding participation by our school community is indicative of the value families place on education; with classrooms and the gym overflowing as students celebrate their success with those most important to them.
Class Placement
Class groupings are being shaped over the next two staff meetings so I would ask that if you have decided that your child is not returning in 2024, please let the school know. We currently have 116 children on our waiting list and would love to be able to welcome new students and their families to our school community.
As previously communicated, if families have any information critical to their child’s learning or wellbeing needs, please submit a request through dl.0647.info@schools.sa.edu.au
As is best is practice across our department, requests for desired teachers are not considered. The educators and students themselves provide us with important information that is used to configure classes. Consideration is given to:-
- Friendships
- Separations: where children are not productive/supportive of each other
- Learning strengths and challenges
- Learner profile attributes
- Wellbeing data
This information is used to shape classes for 130-150 children for each year level, considering their needs individually and as a group.
NAPLAN Results
As previously explained the 2023 NAPLAN results are not comparable with previous years, due to the timing and the change of the scale from Bands 1-9 to four proficiencies; Needs Additional Support (NAS), Developing, Strong and Exceeding.
I am able to share our results in relation to expected performance with our aim for students to achieve the Strong/Exceeding proficiencies. Both are considered to be above the previous benchmark of SEA- Standard of Educational Achievement.

In both the Year 3 and 5 cohorts, LPPS students have achieved 90+% for the Reading and Numeracy aspects. The aspects of Grammar and Writing are areas where we have fallen below 90%. Year 3 achieving 85% in Grammar and Year 5 achieving 88% in Grammar and 85% in Writing. These aspects of literacy are where students are required to produce and express their own ideas in English. This will be a Site Improvement focus in forthcoming years.
Kind regards, Fiona
Assembly Awards
Congratulations to all the students listed below, who demonstrated the Learner Profile Attributes this past fortnight in R-6.

Student Leadership Conference

Jane Angove
On Thursday 26 October, the Year 6 Student Wellbeing Leaders participated in a Student Leadership Conference at Unley Primary School.
A representative from the Department for Education's Wellbeing and Engagement Team provided an incredible opportunity for our Student Leaders to connect with their peers from across the Greenhill South Partnership.
The event aimed to foster collaboration and knowledge sharing among student leaders, with a specific focus on exploring the 2023 Wellbeing and Engagement Collection data. Our Student Leaders gained a deeper understanding of wellbeing at Linden Park Primary School and were able to review and enhance their action plans in preparation for 2024. Students were able to develop their own leadership skills, but also strengthen the collective effort towards improving student wellbeing across the partnership.

By: Ada S. & Shukita D. (Room 39)
"Today was a very important event where we had meaningful discussions to do with Wellbeing across our schools. We met a lot of other student leaders and got to know them".
Interoception
Interoception is noticing and responding to our body’s physical and emotional state. Interoception can help us understand our bodies and strategies to help regulate our emotions in a safe way.
Have a go yourself!

- Lie on your back.
- Pull one knee into your chest, while keeping the other leg straight and your lower back pressed into the floor.
- Hold for 30 seconds.
- Swap legs.
- Where did you feel it in your body when we were completing the stretch?
- Repeat the activity again, but this time focus on your hamstring muscles.
- How did your hamstring muscles feel while completing that stretch?

LPPS: 2024 M&S Fee
Linden Park Primary School Governing Council is considering the Materials & Services Charge for 2024. A copy of the ‘Notice’ of the proposed charge for 2024 is below.
The charge is intended to cover the costs of those essential items and services used or consumed by individual students during the course of their learning. These costs are for items such as access to equipment, stationery and essential activities. The proposed charge for 2024 is to keep the fee at $470.00.
An invitation is extended to all members of our school community to attend an Open Governing Council Meeting on Monday 30 October at 7.00pm in the staff room. This will be an opportunity for parents/caregivers to discuss with the Governing Council the charge prior to the Governing Council voting on this matter.

Year 6 Exhibition 2023
In the final year of the PYP, students carry out an extended, in-depth, collaborative investigation known as the PYP Exhibition. Students were required to engage in a transdisciplinary inquiry process that involves them in identifying, investigating and offering solutions to real-life issues or problems. The idea around the Exhibition draws on all the things students have learned, the attitudes and behaviors they have developed, as well as the skills students have developed over their entire schooling experience. It also provides the wonderful opportunity to celebrate the transition of learners to the next phase of their education (High School).
After a term of meticulous research, collaboration and inquiry into a range of areas, our Year 6 students were able to share their learning on Thursday 28 September. Students investigated a range of focus areas around the central theme ‘How the World Works’. They began their research using the IB concepts and developed three 'big questions' that linked to the central idea of ‘Understanding how the world works empowers lifelong learning’.
Students were grouped into interest groups of about four people who were doing a similar topic. The focus of the Exhibition was around collaboration and so it was important for students to work with others during the investigating stage. Staff across the school gave up their time to help mentor groups to ensure students had ample opportunity to verbalise their learning and discuss their planning. Despite sometimes feeling overwhelmed with the magnitude of work, they have come out with flying colours and showed motivation, passion and commitment beyond their years. They should all be commended for an amazing Exhibition night, an incredibly well self-directed term and a successful finish to the PYP. We extend a big thank you to the Year 6 teachers and staff that mentored students for all their hard work to make this event possible.

LPPS Legends win the Winter Championship – Year 5 Basketball
By: Michael Waxman (Year 5 Coach)
The finals were claimed by the Legends! What an incredibly tense match it turned out to be. The Legends and Parkside Pythons exhibited outstanding basketball skills throughout the game. At one point, midway through the match, the Legends found themselves trailing by six points. However, fuelled by determination, they mounted a comeback, equalising with just two minutes left on the clock before ultimately securing a victory with a three-point lead. Absolutely remarkable!
A big thank you goes out to everyone who contributed to this season's success. To the parents, we appreciate your support in ensuring the kids were present. Satomi, your efforts in keeping score were invaluable and a special shout-out to Kar for delivering exceptional coaching. This season was an absolute blast!

Oliver came third in the in 200m and also joined Noah as part of the 10 years relay team that finished third in the event.
Congratulations to both students on their results.

Volleyball SA – Primary Schools SA State Final
On Monday 23 October, Linden Park Primary School proudly witnessed the exceptional performance of three of its teams at the Volleyball SA State Final, held at the Marion Leisure and Fitness Centre. These teams had secured their spots by clinching first or second place in their respective divisions during an earlier carnival held in Lightsview in Term 3.
The competition was fierce, especially for our Year 5 boys' team, who faced predominantly Year 6 opponents that had also excelled in their qualifying carnivals across Adelaide. Nevertheless, our boys displayed remarkable skill and determination, making their rivals work tirelessly for every point. Throughout the day, they engaged in five thrilling matches, ultimately securing a commendable fifth place. We extend our sincere applause to our Year 5 boys: Thomas D, Nicholas N, Finn B, Gianluca Z, and Blake M for their outstanding efforts.
Meanwhile, both of our girls' teams were placed in separate pools, setting the stage for some captivating matches. To advance to the grand final, each team had to clinch the top spot in their respective pool after the group matches. Initially, it seemed like a dream scenario with both teams winning their early matches and sitting atop their pools. However, one of the teams narrowly missed out in the final match, resulting in Linden Park G3 finishing as the runners-up. A heartfelt congratulations to Jiorjana P, Ava T, Mia K, Katilyn O, Jenuli N, and Czyanne S for their remarkable achievement.
The other Linden Park team, comprised of Abby R, Amelia L, Naly C, Leah L, and Sarah D, who soared to the top of their pool and secured their place in the grand final against St Peter’s Woodlands. The final match of the carnival drew a captivated audience, and it did not disappoint. After 15 minutes of intense gameplay, the scores were tied, and it came down to Golden Point! The crowd watched as SPW served the ball. After a series of nerve-wracking exchanges over the net, SPW's final shot landed out of bounds, granting Linden Park Primary G4 a well-deserved championship. This extraordinary game ended with our girls becoming the rightful champions in the Year 5/6 Girls Division.
We extend our gratitude to all the students for their exceptional behaviour and sportsmanship during the course of the carnival. We also want to express our appreciation to our parent volunteer Kathrin for accompanying the team on the bus and to all the parents who supported their children during their matches.

Year 1 - Monarto Zoo Excursion
As part of our Unit of Inquiry into 'Sharing the Planet', Year 1 students visited the Monarto Zoo over two days. The sessions included a walk from the Visitor Centre that culminated at the Chimpanzee platform. It is a multi sensory and interactive experience that utilises the natural bushland of Monarto to engage students.
The students recognised the living world is an important part of our daily lives as they explained observations and compared findings. They were encouraged to be creative and confident individuals who can think deeply and broadly when using the environment as a resource.
