Principal's Report
Early Years Sports Day
Congratulations to the Early Years teachers, PE team and our wonderful students for a fun and exciting Sports day last Friday. It was wonderful to see so many children don their house colours, cheering their classmates on.
The Year 6 House Captains did an amazing job of running the tabloid activities, well supported by class teachers. They were both principled and strong communicators over the course of the day.
A special thank you must go to the Simply Fresh Fruiterers, based in the Erindale Shopping Centre on Kensington Road. Simply Fresh have donated over 1,000 pieces of fruit for our school over both Sports-days. Please support those businesses that are part of our school community.
Remembrance Day 2023
This year Remembrance Day falls on a Saturday, so LPPS will not mark the occasion together, instead the Ambassadors are developing a digital ceremony so that class teachers can share it with their students.
The following information was researched by James as explanation to why we recite the Ode of Remembrance as part of Remembrance Day commemorations:
The Ode of Remembrance has been recited to commemorate wartime service and sacrifice since 1921. The Ode was part of the poem ‘For the Fallen’ by Laurence Binyon. This poem was first published in the British newspaper ‘The Times’ on the 21 September 1914.
The Ode of Remembrance is usually followed by a simple reply: ‘We will remember them, lest we forget.’ ‘Lest we forget’ is a shortened phrase of ‘They should not be forgotten’. This simple saying can help people remember the fallen soldiers (and innocent people) who went or were victims of war.
During our planning the Ambassadors acknowledged there are conflicts currently existing in our Global Community; we wish all communities peace and harmony.
Term 1 2024 Reception Transition Visits
Welcome to our 2024 Reception Families for the Term 1 intake.
This week we had over 50 children engage in their first taste of school and as expected, some were excited and others overwhelmed. Families and children were greeted by our very welcoming Reception team.

STEM Week 2023
During STEM Week our Year 5 and Year 6 students worked with the science teachers and Year 9 students from Glenunga International highschool to participate in a variety of STEM workshops.
The workshops involved; working with microscopes, building catapults, stem cooking, designing a roller coaster, and exploring the physics of parachutes.
Each station was a hive of activity and as you can see in the photos below students were in deep concentration and collaboration.
We are explorers!
During STEM Week the Year 4s worked with ‘Fleet Stem’ to explore the world of satellites. Students were posed with the challenge to build their own satellite with lego.
Thank you to the Fleet team for volunteering their time.
Bubbles and bubbles and bubbles
The Year 3 students worked with their Science Teacher Mel Fuller to create their own giant bubbles. Students inquired into what makes a bubble and the properties of these. Here is a copy of the procedure that the students followed during their investigations.
Gigantic Bubble Mix
What You'll Need
- 1 cup Fairy dishwashing detergent
- 2 1/3 cups water
- 1/3 cup glycerine (available from pharmacies)
- Empty drink bottles with lids for storage of your bubble liquid
- Plastic-coated garden wire (available from hardware stores)
- A small length of cotton twine
To Make
Step 1: Mix the detergent, water and glycerine together well. Pour the mixture into your empty bottles.
Step 2: Allow your bubble mixture to sit for a while before using. The longer you keep it, the better it gets.
Step 3: Shape your plastic-coated wire into any shape you wish – stars, hearts, circles! You might want to use gaff tape to cover over any sharp edges at the end of the wire for safety.
Now you're ready for some bubbly fun in the sun! Bubbles will work best if you move the wand through the air slowly. It's also easier to make great bubbles in damp or humid conditions.
Quick Tip: If you tie a small line of cotton thread across about 1/3 of the way along from the edge of your circle it will improve the bubble wand’s ability to hold the bubble liquid.
A big thank you to Jane Allan and Mel Fuller, our Science Teachers for all their hard work in organising and facilitating STEM week this year.

Russell Hanson, Teacher-LibrarianGuiding Children Through Periods of Change
As we approach the end of the school year, students are experiencing a period of transition and change. Some may be embarking on their first steps into Secondary School, whilst others may be contemplating a new teacher and classmates.
The following resource provides guidance and support to help children to navigate these transitions in their educational journey. Link below.
Interoception
Interoception is noticing and responding to our body’s physical and emotional state. Interoception can help us understand our bodies and strategies to help regulate our emotions in a safe way.
Have a go yourself!
Cat/Cow Stretch
- Start on all fours. Your back should be flat like a tabletop. Eyes should like straight down to the ground.
- Breathe in through your nose, drop your belly down and slowly lift the head/neck up.
- When you exhale through your mouth, lift the belly and spine up so the back is arched like a cat.
- Alternate 5 – 10 cow to cat stretches.
Where did you feel it in your body when you were stretching?
- Repeat the activity again, but this time focus on our back muscles.
How did your back muscles feel while completing that stretch?

Introduction
The Sports Day Carnival at the end of the year is a fun experience for the students in Early Years to play sports and have a good time. The point of our Sports Day is for everyone to be included and to play fun games together with your friends and classmates. Some of the Sports Day activities include sack racing, egg and spoon races and more. To succeed in these activities the students need to use hand-eye coordination, teamwork and communication skills. Sports day is a fun day for Linden Park students to make them feel more confident and learn new skills.
Fun
The Early Years Sports Day is super fun for all children between Reception and Year 2. It's an amazing way to end the year with students getting healthy by staying active and enjoying time with their friends and peers. Also it's a really good opportunity to have lots of fun when playing outside and trying lots of different activities. Some examples of those activities include the parachute, chicken throw, sprints and many more. The Year 6 house captains will make the day very fun by encouraging all children to have a go trying new activities and cheering them on with our house chants. The Early years Sports Day will create lots of memories with friends which will continue over the many years of school to come.
Participation
One of the key elements of Sports Day is the participation of all the students. Unlike the Primary Sports day, the Early Years sports day it isn’t a competition but more so about enjoyment and participation. We think participation is very important as it can build up confidence and it can get young children into sports which is good for their wellbeing. Participation can also lead to a more enjoyable and exciting day for all of the students. Our goal as sport captains is to make sure all students are able to participate in all activities, enjoying themselves thoroughly and expanding their attitude as learners.
Teamwork
Collaboration and teamwork are integral to the success of Sports Day. Students are encouraged to include everyone in their team and ensure that each member has a chance to participate in every event. Sports Day provides an excellent opportunity for your child to step out of their comfort zone and participate in new games and challenges. By also working as a team they can learn valuable life skills such as communication, cooperation, and leadership. This can also benefit them not only in sports but also in aspects of their lives.

Happy Diwali
Diwali, also known as Deepawali, is a popular Hindu Festival known as the ‘Festival of Lights’. Different variations of celebration happen across India and Sri Lanka, as well as all over the world. It is enjoyed by many different people regardless of faith including Hindus, Sikhs, Jains and Buddists. Diwali symbolises new beginnings, the victory of light over darkness, good over evil, and knowledge over ignorance.
During the celebration many illuminate their homes and public places with diyas (oil lamps), candles and lanterns to symbolise the light of protection. People also take part in ceremonies, prayer, firework displays and gatherings with each other.
The festival itself takes place on a different date each year, according to the Hindu Lunar calendar, usually between October and November. This year Diwali is on Sunday the 12 November. It lasts for 5 days with each day typically having different rituals and traditions. The 5 day celebrations calendar start from the 10 November until the 14 November, with the day of Diwali being on the 12. On this day many people wear their nicest clothes and say ‘Happy Diwali’ to each other.
On the first day- many clean their homes and prepare food.
On the second day- people decorate their homes with clay lamps and create ‘rangoli’ designs made out of rice, sand or flowers created on the floor of the home.
On the third day- families gather for prayer, feast together and celebrate with fireworks.
On the fourth day- friends and relatives visit with gifts and best wishes for the season. A common theme is the bond between husband and wife, so husbands will often buy their spouses gifts to celebrate.
On the fifth day the focus on the bond between siblings, specifically between brother and sister where they celebrate and share a meal together.
The message of positivity, and kindness is one of importance that if everyone lives by, it will make the world a better place.

..... Manvi Upadhyay, Year 2, Room 4. I celebrate Diwali by decorating my house with string lights, diyas, rangoli and by doing sparkles. Mum prepares a lot of sweet and savoury snacks during this festive season. We have family and friends’ gatherings where we enjoy delicious food and wish each other “Saal Mubarak” which means Happy New Year.
..... Neil Parikh, Year 4, Room 23. My family celebrates Diwali, our New Year, by worshipping God, lighting lamps around the house, wearing traditional clothes, making sweets, and celebrating with friends and family. But my favourite part is making Rangoli, art designs with coloured powder and lighting the sparklers at night.

Years 5/6 Boys Cricket Progress to the Next Round
On Friday 27 October, the Year 5/6 Boys Knockout Cricket team played their second round match against East Marden Primary School. It was a highly contested match, with each team showing why their deserved a spot in the third round.
East Marden batted first and made a respectable 114 of their 20 overs. This meant that Linden Park had a serious chase on their hands and it got off to a great start with the opening partnership.
The momentum began to swing and East Marden arm-wrestled themselves back into the contest. So much so, that Linden Park required 13 runs off the last over to win the game. Rohan and Kyle were both back in after retiring earlier in the innings. Everyone was on the edge of their seats and East Marden made it difficult to score runs.
The balls ticked by and Linden Park managed to sneak a few runs. It all came down to the final ball of the game and Linden Park needed five runs to win. Kyle F was on strike, he was the only one who could win the game for Linden Park. The East Marden bowler came storming in; Kyle gave himself a bit of room and smacked the ball over cover for six! Kyle had won the game with a six off the last ball to win by one run! What a performance!
Linden Park Primary now progress to the third round against Burnside Primary School for a spot in the School Sport SA Years 5/6 Knockout Grand Final.
