External review
The final report from the Department for Education External Review is now uploaded to our website where you can read the full report and directions. The external review is conducted every three years and provides valuable insights into how the school is improving learning outcomes for its students. The review process was conducted over three days at Linden Park and involved interviews with parents, students and staff, reviewing of improvement data, policies and practices that are in place to improve teaching and learning at our site.
The panel noted that the students at Linden Park Primary School are intrinsically motivated, articulate and willing to talk about their learning, staff are highly committed to their professional learning and improving outcomes for students and parents value teachers’ and leaders’ efforts and express their appreciation for the school’s wellbeing focus and the proactive approach to addressing the social and emotional needs of students. The review identified three directions for further development which will be incorporated into our Site Improvement Plan and strategic directions.
Thank you to all parents, staff and students who participated, our next review will be held in 2024.
School Assessments
Term 3 is extremely busy for our teachers with scheduled testing occurring across all year levels including PAT testing (Numeracy and Reading) and Brightpath (Writing analysis). Data is compared to results from earlier in the year to analyse growth and identify opportunities. Individual Naplan student reports should be arriving soon and we will distribute directly to families. NAPLAN is a point-in-time assessment that allows parents to see how their child is progressing in literacy and numeracy against the national standard and compared with their peers throughout Australia. At the classroom level, NAPLAN provides additional information to support teachers’ professional judgement about student progress.
HATS !
Spring has arrived….and the UV rating is now averaging above 3. To protect skin and eyes from ultraviolet (UV) damage, students must wear a hat that protects the face, back of the neck, eyes and ears. Our uniform shop sells broad-brimmed, bucket and legionnaire hats which offer the best protection from UV radiation. The daily UV rating can be found on our website and teachers will be enforcing our Sun Smart policy. Please remind your children to bring their hats to school every day.
Festival of Music
We wish all our Year 6/7 Festival of Music choir members all the best for their concert performance on Saturday night.
LPPS X Factory Musical
Next week we are all looking forward to the LPPS "The X Factory" muscial performances. Although COVID protocols has required reduced seating capacity, there are still tickets available on Qkr for the matinee performances. Thank you for your support in what promises to be an amazing production.
Congratulations
Our Adelaide South East District Athletics team finished second in points in the large schools competition on Tuesday - well done to the team and supporting staff Geoff, Harry, Tammy & Donna. More details following in this newsletter!

Yr 2 Art Gallery incursion
As part of our Unit of Inquiry "How we Express Ourselves" our Year 2 students engaged in an outreach program presented by the Art Gallery of South Australia on Monday 30th August and Wednesday 1 September. During the facilitated sixty minute ‘Making a Mark’ session students were led through a range of drawing opportunities, with an emphasis on mark making, risk taking and critical and creative thinking. Thank you to Judith Sweetman from the Art Gallery for her inspiring workshop!
Reception : Botanic Gardens Excursion
As part of their Unit of Inquiry, “How the World Works” our Reception classes visited the Adelaide Botanic gardens on Wednesday 1 September and Friday 3 September to discover the Aboriginal Plant Use Trails. Our expert guide, Trent Hill, took students on a 45-minute guided walk through the Australian Forest highlighting the traditional uses of trees and plants by Aboriginal people. Thank you to our parent volunteers who accompanied the classes.
Yr 1 Marine Discovery Centre Excursion
On the 7th, 8th and 9th September our Year 1 students as part of their Unit of Inquiry "Where we are in Place and Time" and the central idea of "Human behaviour & choices impact the enviroment" visited the Marine Discovery at Henley Beach.
A highlight of this excursion is the “Marine Trail” - where the students walk along Henley beach investigating items they find. Afterwards inside the centre, children were able to observe fish in the aquaria, use the interactive displays and complete a beachcombing activity. Many thanks to all the wonderful parents who accompanied us on the various days.
Oliphant Science Awards 2021
Congratulations to all groups and individuals who entered the 2021 Oliphant Science Awards. The standard of projects across our 100 entries was very high and we are delighted to confirm that 7 LPPS entries won prizes in their age division. We also had 5 students receive a ‘Highly Commended’. The Oliphant Science Awards is an excellent way for students to follow their interest in science and extend their science skills and knowledge. It is never too early to start to plan your entry for 2022!

SAPSASA District Athletics
On Tuesday, the Adelaide South East District Athletics day was held at Athletics SA Stadium at Mile End. LPPS took a team of 52 Years 4-7 students to compete in the various track and field events.
On a beautiful day for athletics, we had some really positive results across all ages and events. The students had a great time being able to put their skills on show against other school participants and had a wonderful time mixing amongst the other competitors. We finished second overall in points in the large schools competition, narrowly going down to Concordia College. A huge thanks to Geoff Mills for organising the team and the day, to all the parent volunteers for assisting with supervising the students on the bus and volunteering at the events. A special thank you to Mack Haynes, Monique Thompson and Josh McGuire for giving up their time before school over the past month to hold training sessions for the student to practice their events before the carnival. Another huge acknowledgement to our students for the excellent behaviour and conduct during the day. They certainly competed and acted in the appropriate way for a major sporting event including acknowledging other participants at the end of their events. The amount of support they had for everyone in the team during each other’s events was outstanding.
A special mention to Tavian A and Alana D who competed in their individual events on the day as well. Tavian and Alana ran their events to great support from the crowd down the straight and with the great support on the track by their peers. It was great to see them embrace at the end and they had such an enjoyable time. Well done. Thanks to Tammy Verrall who also came along to assist Tavian and Alana.

Year 6/7 Volleyball SA Carnival
On Friday 27th August, Linden Park Primary School had close to 50 students participate in the Year 6/7 Volleyball SA Carnival held at The Lights Complex in Lightsview.
LPPS had 8 teams battle it out against schools across the Adelaide Metropolitan area and even a few schools on the Yorke Peninsula. Each team played a minimum of 4 games, with some of our girls’ teams playing 5 games. The Year 6/7 students have been learning volleyball in Physical Education with teacher Kathy Wall and it was a great opportunity to showcase their skills.
It was a really enjoyable day of sport, with teams supporting each other and even coaching themselves. Every student demonstrated great leadership and resilience playing against some talented teams from other schools. All of our teams put up great performances and more importantly, really enjoyed competing with their teammates.

School Sport SA District Hockey Carnival
In week 7 (30/8/21 - 3/9/21), we had 6 students from Linden Park Primary representing Adelaide South East at the School Sport SA District Hockey Carnival. Charlie C, Vito G and Hikaru O represented the boys squad and Evie N, Lucy C and Zoe A made the girls side. The girls team had a really impressive carnival, taking home the silver medal. Congratulations to all students involved for a great week!

Year 6 Boys SAPSASA State Soccer Carnival
Tristan K and Jacob T represented Adelaide South-East District in the Year 6 Boys SAPSASA State Soccer Carnival held at West Beach Parks Football Centre & Barratt Reserve from the 1st to 3rd September 2021. Tristan and Jacob used their speed, skill and strength to outwit their opponents and score some stunning goals. Adelaide South-East District came joint second place in Division 1. Well done boys!

Yr 5 Mighty Golds Soccer team
Week 6 : LPS Gold 3 - St Joseph’s Norwood 0
A splendid display of resolute defending and scintillating passing led to the Mighty Golds posting another victory. Our defensive line of Liam, Nandan, Zac and Mateo held firm throughout the match. A great pass from Vincent led to Seth firing our first, then a magnificent run and cross by Seth was expertly converted by Van. Ashley then wrapped the game up brilliantly after an unbelievable back heel from Massi. A very tidy performance.
Week 7: LPS Gold 9 - Norwood 1
Finally the boys did everything coach has been teaching them this year, but in spite of that they still scored nine goals! All the goals were great but it was thanks the fantastic passing and build-up play from all the boys. Ben got a second half hat-trick, Ashley weaved his way through the defense for two, Massi thumped in another two while Van and Zac scored one each. But none of this would have been possible without assists from Nandan, Seth, Matteo and Vincent. The team also defended superbly.
Coach: Chris Morrison
Term 4 After-School Orienteering
On Thursdays from 3.45-5pm. First event is at LPPS on 21/10. This is free for LPPS students.
Then four more events at other nearby schools. $5 per event. All equipment supplied. Beginners welcome. Parents to provide transport and supervision.
For more information and to register, contact Aylwin Lim, ayllim@netscape.net.
Years 2-7 Cricket Registration
The 2021 cricket season will commence at the end of week 2, term 4. It is a great opportunity for players to develop their skills, get some regular exercise, build confidence and have lots of fun. ALL Years 2-7 students are welcome to register – boys and girls. Teams will generally be mixed unless numbers and gender dictate otherwise.
YEAR 2
If your child is in Year 2 and has not played cricket before, we recommend that they try Junior Blasters Cricket before playing Kanga. Visit www.playcricket.com.au for more information and to register at a centre near-by (we recommend the Glenunga centre located at Margaret Bond Reserve on Friday afternoons 4:00pm – 5:00pm with the first session being held on Friday 22nd October.
YEAR 3 – YEAR 7
Term 4 Kanga cricket is for students in Years 2* (*with cricket experience) and Year 3. It is played on Saturday mornings at Kensington Gardens Reserve (West Terrace, Kensington Gardens). There will most likely be two start times (8.30am for Year 2’s and 9.45am for Year 3’s). Games last approximately 1 hour. All equipment is modified and supplied and uses a soft ball.
Year 4/5 cricket is played on Friday afternoons from 4.30pm to approximately 7pm. All matches are played at various grounds in the Eastern suburbs area. The format is modified, using a semi-soft ball and protective equipment is to be worn.
Year 6/7 cricket is played on Saturday mornings from 8.30am-12pm. All matches are played at various grounds in the Eastern suburbs area. The format is slightly modified, using a hard ball and protective equipment is to be worn.
The competitions have 6 matches for the term. The cost is $50. The fee is set by the Sports Committee to adequately defray the costs of consumables (mostly balls), school costs and periodic replacement of kit, so that the cricket program is self-funding. Care of the equipment will keep our costs down. The fee is non-refundable, so please ensure your child is available to play.
Each team needs parents to volunteer as team coordinators (coach and manager). Without these, we cannot register the team (that is, no coordinator = no team). These roles can be shared. All coaches must obtain a Working with Children Check. All volunteers must complete the Responding to Abuse and Neglect (RAN) course online. Volunteer coaches do not pay the fees for their child for the season.
Please remember it is a shared responsibility of parents to help out with all aspects of running cricket games (scoring, umpiring, ground set up/pack up etc). Please support the coach by ensuring that your child is on time for practices and games, is picked up promptly at their conclusion and that you notify the coach if your child is unable to attend practices or games.
A reminder that protective equipment must be worn during Years 4-7 matches. Helmets, pads and gloves can be provided by the school in the equipment bag if required. For hygiene reasons, each player will need to provide their own ‘box’ protector. These are available for purchase from most sports stores. Friday afternoon cricketers and Kanga cricketers can wear school uniform. Years 6/7 Saturday morning cricketers wear Linden Park Primary School white polo top and white cricket pants (available for purchase from most sports stores).
Teams will be formed by the Sports Coordinator based on registrations received by the closing date. Further information will be distributed once teams have been confirmed, including a consent to play and required medical and emergency contact information. Please register by paying the fee via the QKR App or on the QKR website (under the School Sport menu, then under the Out of School Hours Sport tab) so we can provide you with further information in a timely manner. Registration/payment AFTER the closing date (Friday 17th September) may not be accepted unless there are spots available.
If you have any questions, please contact me via email.
