Principal's Report
School Activities
Normally at this time of year, the school would be full of parents visiting classrooms and celebrating our students’ Learning Journeys. Due to COVID precautions however this has meant that we need to present students' work differently. The photo and video montages that you would have received of student learning over the term was just one of the ways to creatively share work. Complementing these videos are the student portfolios which give you an insight into what has been happening in classes and the amazing learning we have been participating in. We hope that you enjoy them! Thank you to all our teachers and Nicole Scrivener for putting them together.
NAPLAN 2021
Individual NAPLAN student reports have been sent home for all Year 3, 5 and 7 students who sat the tests early last term. These reports provide an overview of your child’s progress against both the school and national standards. NAPLAN tests are just one source of evidence that we use to evaluate and record student growth and progress across the year. If you require any assistance in interpreting the report or would like to discuss the results, please see your child’s teacher in the first instance. Overall students at our school again performed to a very high standard and showed excellent growth across all domains.
Staffing
We welcome Miss Lara Harcourt who will be teaching in Reception Room 15, while Mrs Braithwaite starts her Maternity leave.
Ms Tracy McEgan will be working as Heidi Rohrig's Deputy Principal role for the first three weeks of term 4 whilst Heidi is on leave. I will inform Room 10 families of the replacement teacher once confirmed.
You may have heard that I will be leaving at the end of the year to take up a position of Educational Director for the Port Augusta, Far North and Quorn districts. I will be overseeing the improvement and development journeys of a range of very diverse schools and preschools. Although this is an amazing opportunity, I will certainly miss my time here at Linden Park. I have learnt so much from the community and been impressed by the dedication, resilience, passion and commitment of our staff, students and the wider community resulting in an amazing place to work and learn. I really look forward to spending the last term with you all celebrating our achievement.
The hunt for a new principal has already begun with the advertisement of the role on the Department for Education website. The process will be completed mid term 4 and we will hopefully be able to announce the successful candidate prior to the end of the school year.
COLA Update
This time last year I was announcing the beginning of the Covered Outdoor Learning Area (COLA) development project. Well a year later it is nearing completion and it looks magnificent. We will be ready to enjoy the newly resurfaced space next term and it will provide much needed shade during sports lessons and other school activities. Thank you to the Governing Council and the Community and Fundraising Committee for their efforts to ensure this project's completion.
2022 Class Placement reminder
If you know that your child will not be attending Linden Park in 2022 - please advise us via the recent Edsmart form sent to all parents. It is also an opportunity for you to list three students that your child works well with for class placement consideration.
Congratulations
Special congratulations to Vanessa Buttery, Alice Combe, the support staff and our very talented students for their LPPS Musical "The X Factory" performances last week. Despite not being able to perform at Norwood Concert Hall, our gym was successfully transformed into a mini theatre for two days. The huge amount of work that went into the production resulted in some outstanding performances - certainly a highlight of the year!
I would also like to congratulate all of our staff on a successful Term 3. The online Learning Journeys, Book Week, Dance for Downs, Festival of Music and various sporting achievements have highlighted the many talents we have at our school. I would like to wish you all a safe and happy holiday break and hope you have the chance to spend some quality time with your families.

Learning Journeys
Learning in the Primary Years Programme (PYP) provides many formal and informal ways for students to demonstrate how they have developed and applied their knowledge, conceptual understandings, skills and learner profile attributes through the inquiries they undertake. Learning journeys are a notable example of these opportunities and provide a means to see the PYP in action. Each year, students formally share their learning at the end of a unit of inquiry. As communicators, students are able to verbalise and demonstrate their knowledge on what they have learnt. Traditionally this occurs face-to-face in the classroom, where students discuss their thinking with family members.
This year social distancing restrictions proved to be challenging for parent involvement in class events. Instead, students have created digital online videos to share their learning journeys. Videos were uploaded to the usual digital platform their teachers use for communication including, ClassDojo, Seesaw, Google Classroom or direct email. Information on the elements of the IB PYP can be found on the school website.
A photo montage for each year level was also created and the link has been emailed to parents via Edsmart. A big thankyou to the teachers for their time and efforts. They have worked purposefully to ensure that students had the opportunity to vocalise their learning. The video presentations provided a tool to showcase student work, and connect with classroom learning. Please explore these videos and the portfolios with your child.

Festival of Music Performance
On Saturday 11th September our Year 6/7 choir performed on stage at the Adelaide Entertainment Centre as part of the Public Primary Schools’ Festival of Music.
The Primary Schools Festival of Music is a public school-based music education program which is a collaboration between the Department for Education and the SAPPS Music Society, which gives all SA public primary students the opportunity to perform at a prestigious venue.
It was a spectacular event that our students enjoyed being a part of and we must commend our students for their performance on what was a very long day. Thank you to Vanessa, our LPPS Music teacher and staff who supervised students during the day and also thank you to our parent volunteers, Simone Jost and Ted Jennings.
Professional photos from the event can be purchased from Treasured Memories Photography at https://www.tmphotography.com.au/view--order-pictures/924910
Yr 3 Zoo Excursion
On Monday 13th September our Year 3 students visited Adelaide Zoo as part of their Unit of Inquiry into “Sharing the Planet”. Students have focused their studies on the central idea of “Living things rely on a balanced environment for their survival” and it was so rewarding for them to see the Zoo’s friendly creatures up close to learn about their amazing adaptations and features. The day was filled with wonderful experiences for the students.
A special thank you to the many parent volunteers who accompanied the children who helped make the day so informative and enjoyable.

Netball Finals
On Saturday 18th September, Linden Park Primary School had three of our Out of School Hours Netball teams participate in their respective Grand Finals. It was a great day for our school with all three teams winning the premiership in some thrilling results. It was made even better since all three of our teams lost in their semi-finals to the same teams, so it was quite amazing to get all three premierships!
Sub-Junior 6
LINDEN PARK GREY 18 : ST IGNATIUS GOLD 9
The girls knew that it would be a tough game as it has been all year with St Ignatius. But from the very first whistle, the girls took the lead and ran with it. Stella G, Hazel C and Sophia S were shooting sensations. Sara A our Centre covering a crazy amount of the court. Jasmine F, Ava B, Matilda L and Vivian J our defenders, a force to be reckoned with. A big shout out to my assistant coach Niamh D, who missed the season due to a knee injury in the first game of the season ironically against St Ignatius. It was an amazing day and awesome to share the LPPS winning spirit with LPPS White and LPPS Gold.
A shout out to Lana Rossetto for volunteering to coach this great group of girls this season. A well-deserved achievement taking home the premiership.
Sub-Junior 7
LINDEN PARK GOLD: 22 : TRINITY GARDENS PEARLS: 14
Linden Park Gold came up against a strong Trinity Gardens team who as mentioned, beaten our side in the semi-finals. It was a great display by Gold who played some terrific netball to win by 8 goals when the final whistle went. Congratulations to coach Emma Ebert and her team for the great season.
Sub-Junior 9
LINDEN PARK MAROON: 13 : COMETS: 12
Linden Park Maroon had an unbelievable ending to their grand final. At the end of regulation time, the scores were tied at 9-9. Meaning the game had to go into overtime to get a result. The girls did tremendously well to gain the lead and hold on to the end to win by 1 point. A huge thank you to Soula Pandeli for volunteering this season and to her team for representing Linden Park Primary School in the right way!
Volleyball SA Primary Schools Cup – Finals Day
Congratulations to one of our Year 7 girls volleyball teams who qualified for the Volleyball SA Primary Schools Cup Finals Day on Wednesday 22nd September. The girls participated in the qualifying carnival earlier in the term and performed really well, earning an invite to the finals day. The girls come up against some quality competition and won 1 out of their 3 pool games. Unfortunately, we finished 3rd in our pool and didn’t progress to the semi-finals. The girls did really well to be invited back to the finals day and enjoyed the challenge of playing against schools from other zones.

Interschool chess competition final
Our Linden Park Grade C chess team ranked 1st after 6 rounds of qualification games in the group and Kinindu M, Charlotte C, Cindy C, and Essa J represented LPPS to play at the grand final on 17th September.
It was an intensified 4-round-competition for the 18 finalists right from the beginning. Chess games were played in rows of 9 tables that were in order of real time rankings with Linden Park moved up to the second table after the first round.
There were quite a few challenges from the leading teams including Henley Beach PS, Parkside PS and Fulham Garden PS. After two hours, the first three teams were tied at 10.5 points. Our LPPS team finished with 9 points with one missing game, ranking overall 4th place in the final. Well done to all the players.

Yr 5 Soccer
LPPS Gold 3 : East Marden 2
What a thriller! We took the lead through an audacious looping header from Mateo from a stunning Van cross. The game was close and Massi nearly doubled our lead but was thwarted by the keeper. Then despite the defending heroics from Liam and Ben, East Marden equalized before the break.
Second half was more pressure from us as Seth and Ashley constantly ran at their defense which led to us taking the lead again from a Van tap-in. Nandan was solid in defense and Zach pulled off a string of magnificent saves but couldn’t stop East Marden equalizing again two minutes from time.
The Mighty Golds were furious not to be winning this close to the final whistle and threw everything into attack but just couldn’t find a way through until, with less than ten seconds to go, Ashley found a tiny bit of space and smashed his shot into the roof of the net.
Ten seconds later the final whistle blew, and coach fainted. It was a thrilling finale to a fine season. 52 goals scored. 5 conceded. Every player was captain and goalie at least once and (nearly) every player scored a goal. A brilliant team of brilliant players. See you again next year.
Chris Morrison, Coach
2021 Winter Out of Hours Sport
As our winter season draws to a close, I would like to say a huge thank you to all of our parent volunteers who have coached or managed one of our sporting teams this winter season. Our students would not be able to participate if it was not for every single one of you. It is great to chat to the students in the school yard about their sporting teams and the smiles on their faces when they talked about their team. So a huge thank you!
Harry Slee, Out of Hours Sports Coordinator
Thank you to all of our Parent Coaches!

PIRLS (Progress in International Reading Literacy Study)
A number of Year 4 classes have been selected to take part in the Progress in International Reading Study (PIRLS). PIRLS is an important educational research project investigating student achievement in reading. More than 50 countries, including Australia, are participating in this study. PIRLS is an important activity to keep us, as parents and citizens, informed about how our students in Australia are performing in comparison to their peers in other countries and to compare programs of study and teaching practices. We will be able to obtain current national and international information which will help improve the teaching and learning in reading in our country.
Selected students will do an assessment in reading literacy and complete a questionnaire about their experiences at home and school. There is no need for students to study specifically for the assessment as it will not affect individual students’ grades or progress in school.
All data will be kept strictly confidential and no individual student or school will be identified in published data or reports.
