Principal's Report
A Season of New Beginnings – Welcoming the School Year & Celebrating Lunar New Year!
Dear Families and Students,
Happy New Year and a warm welcome to the start of another exciting learning journey at Linden Park Primary School. As we step into this fresh academic year, I am thrilled to see the vibrant energy that each member brings to our multicultural mosaic. Just around the corner, we look forward to the rich traditions of the Lunar New Year, aligning our celebration of cultural diversity with the joy of new beginnings as we celebrate the Olympics, the Year of the Dragon, and the UN International Year of Camelids.
In the bustling corridors and classrooms, the excitement is palpable as our children settle into their new learning environments. Their inquisitive minds are already busy shaping wonderings for the Units of Inquiry, a testament to their passion for discovery and understanding.
We have an action-packed calendar to add to this excitement! Please note the upcoming dates for our students:
- Swimming Sessions: Year 2 in Week 3, Year 1 in Week 4, and Year 4 in Week 5; making a splash as they develop their skills in the pool.
- Year 6 Camp: Our senior students are all set for an adventure that promises to be both educational and exhilarating in Week 5.
- Fete - Thursday 7 March: Our Community celebration and fundraiser
- Student-Free Day - Friday 8 March: With a focus on Literacy Assessments
- Swimming Carnival: Time to dive into the competitive spirit and cheer for our swimmers.
- Athletics Day: To finish the Term, our athletes, Years 4-6 will showcase their talents in an array of track and field events.
An Invitation to Partner in Learning
To ensure these programs can go ahead you are invited along for the ride. Without your support, we cannot staff excursions to provide adequate supervision without disrupting other aspects of our program such as Intervention, small group social skills or extra-curricula programs.
Importantly, Volunteering is more than just an offering of time; it's a commitment to partnership and active engagement in a child's learning process. We warmly extend an invitation to parents to participate in this vital aspect of their child's educational journey. Your presence can make a significant difference in various learning settings, providing essential support when sparks of curiosity ignite and a deeper understanding of their learning takes off.
Your involvement in excursions, in-class activities, or swimming lessons not only bolsters the learning experience but also forges stronger bonds between families and educational institutions. We encourage parents to embrace this opportunity to witness and be a part of their child's important learning milestones, fostering a vibrant, collaborative, and supportive learning environment for all.
Court Update
A quick update on our court resurfacing – though we hoped to have the work completed by the end of Week 1, it seems a few hiccups have extended the timeline. We now anticipate the unveiling of our new courts by the beginning of Week 5, and we have our fingers tightly crossed for no further delays.
I would like to extend a heartfelt acknowledgment to the entire school community, especially to the early years staff and families who have adeptly navigated the day’s routines amidst the organised chaos of over 360 children on the EY oval and under the COLA.
Each beginning carries the promises of new stories and achievements for our children, and I am confident that, together, we will make this year one filled with memorable learning experiences. Let us move forward with optimism and the readiness to embrace every opportunity for growth that this year offers.
Warm regards,
Fiona Voigt, Principal
Governing Council 2024
An election is to be conducted for parent members of the Linden Park Primary School Governing Council Inc. Being part of the Governing Council is a wonderful opportunity to work with the Leaders of our School and to make meaningful impacts for the children and broader School community.
Successful candidates are required to attend Governing Council Meetings and to join and work on one of our committees – which equates to approximately three - four meetings per term and some commitment to progress committee initiatives. Full details of our committees can be found on the School’s website.
A Nomination form is available on the link below and must be lodged at the front office by 3:00pm on Tuesday 27 February 2024.
The ballot will be conducted at the Annual General Meeting to be held on Monday 4 March 2024 at 7:00pm. Following the closing of nominations a list of the nominations received will be posted at the school. There are currently seven vacancies for elected parents members of the Council. The term of office is for a two year period.
Nominees may be required to present at the AGM in support of their nomination.
If the number of nominations is less than the number of vacancies, a notice to that effect and calling for further nominations will be posted in a prominent position at the school.
If at the time of the ballot there are more nominees than vacancies then a contested election will be conducted at the AGM. All eligible nominees will be listed on a ballot form.
Any nominee wishing to appoint a scrutineer to be present at the counting of the ballot must advise the returning Officer of their nominated scrutineer by 3:00pm on Tuesday, 27 February in writing to the school.
Please note: Any additional information or questions in relation to this process should be directed to the principal as returning officer to address.
No campaign literature supporting candidates or groups of candidates may be distributed or posted in the school and no school resources whether human or material may be used to support particular candidates or groups of candidates.

Welcome to the Library
Happy 2024 everyone!
Welcome to our school library. Our school library is the "heart" of the school and is named the 'Margaret Gately Library'.
For those who are not aware, Margaret Gately was the librarian at Linden Park School from 1961 to 1976 and was honoured in 2010 by having (the newly built) school library named after her.
The library is open for students each day from 8:35am to 3:25pm.
Families and students are welcome to visit, browse, borrow or read before school or after school. It’s a great way to connect with other students and their families as well as starting the day on a calm and positive note.
Apart from the student’s weekly borrowing time with their classroom teacher, the students may also borrow books before, after school and at recess and lunchtimes.
Students are able to borrow library books from Week 2, Term 1.
- Reception to Year 1 - two books
- Year 2 to Year 4 - four books
- Year 5 to 6 - five books
This year sees a staff change in the library with Christina Sapio returning to her previous site and Daniel Murphy becoming our new Library Technician.
The Library Team for 2024 consists of myself Russell Hanson, Teacher Librarian; Daniel Murphy, Library Technician and Caroline Regan, School Support Officer.
We look forward to a book filled year!
Russell Hanson, Teacher Librarian

Inquiry Ambassadors
This year we would like to welcome our Inquiry Ambassadors; Aaliya, Alexa, Annabelle, Chloe, Dhyana, Juhi, Melvinder, Sally, Vien and Yuan.
This Leadership Committee is responsible for the school’s learning and teaching, particularly around the implementation of the PYP programme and the Australian Curriculum.
The students work together with other students from other year levels to delve deeply into the philosophy of best practice and assist in the planning of our units of inquiry. They will use learner agency to have voice and choice in regards to what, how and why we learn.
We look forward to sharing with you our achievements in the future.
Kind regards,
Nicole Scrivener, Deputy Principal Innovation and Learning
Auskick Visit
On Friday 9 February (Week 2), Linden Park Primary had a visit from the SANFL to receive an Auskick clinic for classes in Reception – Year 2. Classes were brought out to the oval for a 30 minute session with their teachers to practise their football skills such as kicking, marking and handballing. It was great to see so many kids enjoy kicking a footy with their friends.
Linden Park Primary Auskick Centre begins on Thursday 15 February. This clinic will be held at Mariner Oval and will run for eight weeks.
AFL Auskick is simply the best introduction for kids into the world of Australian Football. Auskickers run, jump, kick, laugh, express themselves and create their own special moments that just happens to be footy. No matter if you know the game or not, Auskick is inclusive for everyone at any ability to play.

Important Message: No Parking (kiss and drop off zone)
The purpose of the zone is for parents/caregivers to park, help their children out of the vehicle, and then move on quickly allowing the next person to do the same.
If a parent/caregivers wishes to walk their child into the school they must not park in this area.
Thank you for helping keep our children safe.

Harmony Day is a celebration of our cultural diversity – a day of cultural respect for everyone who calls Australia home.
On Thursday 21 March, we encourage all students at staff at Linden Park to wear orange clothes (socks, a hair ribbon, a t-shirt, shorts, etc.).
We look forward to talking with our students about diversity and cultural inclusion.
