Kaurna Acknowledgement
Niina Marni. As we feel the earth beneath us, the wind around us and the sun above us, we acknowledge the Kaurna people, the traditional owners of this land. We pay our respects to past Elders and will work with present and emerging Elders to protect and care for this unique land of ours. We also extend this respect to other First Nations peoples.
Principal's Report
Dear Families,
Acquaintance Night
LPPS held Acquaintance Evenings over the last couple of weeks. Many families attended; getting familiar with their child’s teacher and classroom routines. Attendance was high at the information sessions, with some year levels meeting as a whole year level cohort first to demonstrate collaboration and consistency. The Year 6 team met in the shared undercover stage area as an introduction and the Year 2 teachers presented as a team in the gymnasium. We appreciate the amazing support from our community and thank parents for taking the time out of busy schedules to attend.
Korean Student Teacher Visit
Linden Park Primary School values our connection with International Education Services. In the past we have hosted International Study Tours, International teacher exchanges and international teacher training programs. We believe that by welcoming people to our school from all around the world, we are encouraging our students to become active, compassionate, lifelong learners and global citizens, who understand difference and value diversity.
This year ten Trainee Teachers from Gyeongin National University of Education (GNUE) visited our school from Monday 5th of February to Friday 9th of February. Over the course of the week, they shadowed teachers and learnt about the philosophy of the PYP used in our classrooms. They participated in information workshops with a focus on PYP and literacy and delivered their own lessons to the students in the classroom.
The students were supported by their Professor, Joe during the visit.
Water Safety Program
Our swimming program for different year levels has begun, with Years 2 and 1 visiting Burnside Pool the last couple of weeks and the Year 4s participating next week. The Water Safety Program is a curriculum-based program that supports the development of water safety skills and knowledge on and around the water. It is part of the health and physical learning area of the Australian curriculum framework. We thank the parents who volunteered their time to assist with the supervision of children to make this experience possible. Without your help we wouldn’t be able to offer these learning lessons.
LPPS Governing Council Annual General Meeting
We invite all community members to our LPPS Governing Council AGM which will be held on Monday 4th of March at 7.00pm in the Staff Room. The Governing Council plays a crucial role in our educational community, providing guidance, support and governance across a range of important school decisions and functions. The AGM is an opportunity for community members to hear about last year’s school report and provides an opportunity for the election of the 2024 councillor members, including renominating current members.
Reporting to the Governing Council are five sub-committees: Finance, Student Learning and Wellbeing, Community and Fundraising, Campus Development and Sports. Parents from the school community are welcome to join. If you are interested in joining one or more of these committees, please email dl.0647.info@schools.sa.edu.au with your contact details and which sub-committee you would like to join. We look forward to seeing you on Monday 4th March.
Kind regards,
Nicole Scrivener, Acting Principal
Governing Council 2024
An election is to be conducted for parent members of the Linden Park Primary School Governing Council Inc. Being part of the Governing Council is a wonderful opportunity to work with the Leaders of our School and to make meaningful impacts for the children and broader School community.
Successful candidates are required to attend Governing Council Meetings and to join and work on one of our committees – which equates to approximately three - four meetings per term and some commitment to progress committee initiatives. Full details of our committees can be found on the School’s website.
A Nomination form is available on the link below and must be lodged at the front office by 3:00pm on Tuesday 27 February 2024.
The ballot will be conducted at the Annual General Meeting to be held on Monday 4 March 2024 at 7:00pm. Following the closing of nominations a list of the nominations received will be posted at the school. There are currently seven vacancies for elected parents members of the Council. The term of office is for a two year period.
Nominees may be required to present at the AGM in support of their nomination.
If the number of nominations is less than the number of vacancies, a notice to that effect and calling for further nominations will be posted in a prominent position at the school.
If at the time of the ballot there are more nominees than vacancies then a contested election will be conducted at the AGM. All eligible nominees will be listed on a ballot form.
Any nominee wishing to appoint a scrutineer to be present at the counting of the ballot must advise the returning Officer of their nominated scrutineer by 3:00pm on Tuesday, 27 February in writing to the school.
Please note: Any additional information or questions in relation to this process should be directed to the principal as returning officer to address.
No campaign literature supporting candidates or groups of candidates may be distributed or posted in the school and no school resources whether human or material may be used to support particular candidates or groups of candidates.

Premier's Reading Challenge
At Linden Park Primary School, we encourage all students (Reception to Year 6) to complete the Premier’s Reading Challenge (PRC).
The Department of Education started this reading program to promote both independent reading and being read aloud to for all school-aged children.
To participate your child needs to read twelve books by September 2024; however we are asking that Linden Park students return their completed sheets by Week 5 of Term 2.
Children do not need to actually do the reading themselves. Any or even all of the books can be read to your child. The title and author of the books need to be recorded on the student reading record, including an adult’s initials. This sheet has been given to the Year 1 to Year 6 students by their classroom teacher.
Reception students’ PRC sheets are completed by their classroom teachers and do not need to complete the program independently. The reception teachers will send their student’s sheets to the library upon completion.
The first eight books on the student reading record need to be from the PRC list. The Library Team have put special PRC stickers on the PRC books to identify them. Red stickers (R-2), Green stickers (3-5), Yellow stickers (6-9).
Families may also go to the PRC website where you are able to check if a particular book is on the list: www.premiersreadingchallenge.sa.edu.au
This website is helpful because as much as the Library Team try to put stickers on all the books, we do miss some. Also, if a book is from a shop, another library or home, you may need to check. The last four books on the student reading record are free choice books. They can even be take-home reading texts (readers). The students may also like to utilise our school’s e-platform for further reading and audio materials.
Once your child has completely filled out the reading record, including their 12 books, please return the reading record to your child’s class teacher.
Please call or email the school if you have any questions and I will be glad to give you additional information.

Cyber Safety Incursion
With the introduction of Chromebooks there is a need to educate students about Cyber Safety. A workshop on ‘Cyber and Internet Safety’ was organised for the Years 4 and 5 students. The session was run by Richard Rowland from ‘FYI Drug and Health Education’. Richard, a qualified teacher, is an Educational Entertainment Specialist committed to inspiring students to want to learn. Students had the opportunity to use Promethean Active Response Units. The units were handheld devices allowing children to respond via a wireless connection to the Educator’s computer.
The workshop focused on: -
- Social media contracts and the dangers of agreeing to them.
- Identify theft and the importance of strong, secure passwords.
- Cyber Safety rules and being aware of posting photographs and comments on-line.
- Cyber-bullying. What to do if it’s happening and the steps to prevent this.
