Principal's Report
Dear Families,
The Term finishes with a celebration of achievement through Student-led Conferences, giving students a voice in sharing their successes and identifying next steps for learning. Portfolios will be sent home next week, providing families with evidence of the work and achievements made this term.
The pace at Linden Park continues to be frenetic; with one event giving way to the next. Swimming Carnival was last week and whilst the winners were Cleland, all students showed great sportsmanship on the day. We are indebted to the parents who ‘saved the day’ by volunteering to get on the bus and assist with the required supervision ratios. Athletics Day is next week, spreading over two days; Wednesday for the Years 4 and 6s, with the Year 5 classes finishing the Term over at Mariner on Friday morning. It would be wonderful for as many parents, as possible, to come and cheer on their children, creating an encouraging and competitive atmosphere. Students are encouraged to wear their house colours and points are used towards Sports Day and selection for the LPPS Athletics Team.
IB-PYP Evaluation
This September we will be under a spotlight as a panel of IB evaluators put our Primary Years Program Standards and Practices under scrutiny. Evaluation provides us with external feedback; commendations and recommendations to pin-point where we can look to improve.
Evaluation will include all stakeholders of our school community, staff, families and importantly our students, more information will be included regularly in newsletters as we prepare and get closer to the date.
Ambassador news
I have the privilege of working with a committed and passionate group of Year 6 student leaders, the LPPS Ambassadors. This Term the Ambassadors have focused on reworking the script for school tours, organising a Food Drive as we lead in to the cooler months and have recently started reviewing the Canteen Menu against the criteria of the Rite Bite Strategy. Students are using the traffic light system to identify healthy food and drink choices that support learning and concentration.
We are also encouraging families to consider foods that are bought from home by exploring:
- Healthy Lunchboxes - https://heas.health.vic.gov.au/resources/food-drink-ideas/healthy-lunchboxes/
- Safe Lunchboxes - https://www.sahealth.sa.gov.au/wps/wcm/connect/public+content/sa+health+internet/conditions/food+safety/keeping+your+food+safe/safe+school+lunches
We ask families to avoid sending or bringing fast foods to school. These meals are generally high in sugars, preservatives and fats, potentially having an impact on children’s behaviors.
In conjunction, the Ambassadors are exploring how they can promote 'Nude Food', a concept that aligns with the schools’ environmental and sustainability mission, encouraging the use of recyclable materials. Newsletters will include more information next term.
I wish all families a safe and restful holidays and look forward to an exciting new term, starting Monday 29 April 2024.

Swimming Carnival: Years 4 -6
On Wednesday 27 March, Linden Park Primary School held its annual Swimming Carnival at Burnside Swimming Centre.
The weather was very favourable and all students took part enthusiastically to earn points for the house swimming shield. The staff /student relay was a favourite with the crowd, with the staff taking out the win this year.
Thank you to all parents who helped as time-keepers, travelling on buses and setting up at the pool in the morning.
Well done to the open 100m champions, Daniel L & Poppy S.
The lead in house points changed frequently during the day with the final results being as follows:
- Cleland: 235
- Gleeson: 231
- Waite: 223
- Davenport: 218

Year 5/6 Statewide Knockout Cricket Competition
On Monday 25 March, Linden Park Primary welcomed Burnside Primary School to Mariner Oval for the opening round of the Statewide Schools Knockout Cricket Competition. The atmosphere was electric as the Year 5/6 Knockout team geared up to face off against last year's statewide champions, Burnside Primary. Captains Thomas D and Blake M won the coin toss and opted to field first.
Right from the outset, Linden Park displayed exceptional bowling prowess, placing Burnside on the defensive early on. Despite some costly wides and no balls, Burnside managed to build a decent partnership, finishing their 20 overs at 8/74, setting Linden Park a target of 75 runs for victory.
Linden Park's response was swift and assertive, with openers Tavish K and Hudson B launching a quick-fire partnership of 23 runs. However, Burnside fought back fiercely, claiming quick wickets and turning the momentum in their favour. Nevertheless, Dhruv P and Darcy A steadied the ship with determined batting displays. Darcy A, in particular, showcased his prowess by smashing boundaries, including a magnificent six over the rope. Eventually, he retired unbeaten on 27*, while Blake M contributed a valuable 19* to seal the win for Linden Park Primary.
The victory was a testament to the team's collective effort, with commendable performances both on the field and with the bat. Linden Park now advances to the second round of the competition, where they are scheduled to face Rose Park Primary early in Term 2.
A special note of gratitude goes to parent volunteer Chris A for her invaluable support throughout the match.

Year 6-7 Registration of Interest
Each year the Department for Education coordinates a state-wide process to assist primary school students’ transition to Secondary School.
Families will receive a unique URL (or web address) by email at the beginning of Term 2 in the week beginning Monday 29 April 2024. Use this URL to access your online Registration of Interest form and nominate the Government Secondary School you want your child to attend in 2025.
It is recommended that you use Chrome as your internet browser to complete this form. The form can be accessed from a computer, tablet or mobile phone, as long as you can connect to the internet. The online form will allow you to tell the Department if:
- You would like your child to attend their local/zoned secondary school.
- You are interested in your child attending another SA Government Secondary School.
- Your child does not require a place, as they will not be attending a SA Government Secondary school in 2025.
It is important that parents/caregivers reach an agreement regarding which Secondary School you want to nominate for your child before you complete the form, as only one form can be submitted for each child.
- The Registration of Interest form must be submitted by Friday 24 May 2024.
- You will receive an enrolment offer between Wednesday 7 August and Friday 9 August 2024.
If you have any queries, please contact Debbie Kennett by email Debbie.kennett231@schools.sa.edu.au
