Principal's Report
Welcome back to Term 2 2024,
With another exciting term ahead, students and staff have thrown themselves into this next term with renewed enthusiasm.
We are in the throws of preparing for the first Reception mid-year intake in many years. The new class will be located at the very end of the Early Years building with entry off of the courts.
As a Leadership Team we are working closely with Staff and Student Leaders to prepare for our IB – PYP Evaluation that is scheduled for the end of Term 3. This process is key to our site receiving feedback from an international panel about the quality and integrity of our Learning Program and associated standards and practices. Staff have been reviewing policies and students ambassadors are preparing for the school tour.
Traffic reminder- Durham Avenue cul-de-sac
Please remember that the Durham Avenue cul-de-sac is not a kiss and drop area. The school, with the support of the Burnside council, ask all families to avoid turning into Durham Avenue during drop-off and pick-up times.
I would also ask families to avoid using three-point turns, particularly on Hay Road. On many occasions vehicles have pulled up onto the footpath in close proximity to students as they are walking past.
As always, our requests are based on the safety of our community, most importantly our students.
2024 Athletics Day (Years 4-6)
In the spirit of athleticism and competition, we congratulate the Years 4-6 parents, staff, students, and the Physical Education (PE) faculty for the organisation of our Athletics Day
During the final week of term, our years 4-6 students, brimming with energy and determination, took to the field, embodying the true spirit of athletes. Whether it was soaring through the air in the high jump, channelling speed in the sprints, showcasing strength in shot put, demonstrating precision in discus, or covering distances in the long jump, each participant, pushed their limits, striving for personal bests and beyond. The atmosphere was complimented by the numbers of students wearing their team colours.
To the PE faculty, whose guidance and encouragement paved the way for our students to shine, your dedication to nurturing talent, instilling confidence, and fostering a love for sports is invaluable. Your commitment to physical education and the holistic development of our students does not go unnoticed.
Thank you to everyone involved for making this day not just a competition, but a vibrant showcase of skill, sportsmanship, and the enduring human spirit to excel and enjoy the essence of athletics.
...... From the Ambassadors
"Dear Families,
Our Year 6 Ambassadors have proposed having a Food Drive at Linden Park Primary School on Wednesday 22-Friday 24 May 2024. The Ambassadors will gladly accept any donations outside of the Wellbeing leader's Office, in front of Room 20.
A Food Drive is an excellent opportunity for our school community to come together and support those in need. By donating non-perishable food items, we can make a significant impact on the lives of individuals and families facing food insecurity. Your contributions, no matter how big or small, can make a difference in someone's life.
We encourage all students, parents, and staff to participate in this event. Together, we can make a positive difference in the lives of others and create a stronger, more caring community here at Linden Park Primary School.
If you choose to contribute to the LPPS Food Drive, we recommend that you bring long-lasting foods such as pasta, dried fruit, canned food and non-perishable items.
All donations will go towards helping families and people in need. Food Bank relies a lot on the generosity of others to continue their work in supporting families and individuals facing food insecurity.
Thank you for your support and generosity.
Poppy Sutcliffe, Year 6 Ambassador"
Well-wishes
To all the mothers and grandmothers, I wish you a wonderful day on Sunday. One where we celebrate the privilege we have as mothers, reflecting on the joy our children bring us.

Wellbeing News
Welcome Back
Welcome back to Term 2. I would like to start by thanking the many families who made me feel so welcome last term and made me feel like part of the LPPS family. It has been much appreciated.
Student Action Committee
Our Student Action Committee (SAC) Reps have been hard at work already this Term and have identified a number of areas around the school that could be improved. It is so pleasing to see how enthusiastic they have been in wanting to have a say in issues which matter to them.
Wellbeing and Engagement Survey
Over the next few weeks, students in Years 4 to 6 will undertake the Wellbeing and Engagement Survey. This is an annual survey conducted by the Department for Education, which allows students to express their views in areas which are important to them including their social, emotional and academic learning.
The survey results allow staff to understand areas which concern students and implement programs and strategies which can better accommodate their needs. Our Student Wellbeing Leaders also analyse the survey results and together focus on areas which need improving and make suggestions on how this can be achieved.
Kind regards
David Molloy, Student Wellbeing Leader & Autism Inclusion Teacher
Premier's Reading Challenge
At Linden Park Primary School, we encourage all students (Reception to Year 6) to complete the Premier’s Reading Challenge (PRC).
The Department of Education started this reading program to promote both independent reading and being read aloud to for all school-aged children.
To participate your child needs to read twelve books by September 2024; however we are asking that Linden Park students return their completed sheets by Week 5 of Term 2.
Children do not need to actually do the reading themselves. Any or even all of the books can be read to your child. The title and author of the books need to be recorded on the student reading record, including an adult’s initials. This sheet has been given to the Year 1 to Year 6 students by their classroom teacher.
Reception students’ PRC sheets are completed by their classroom teachers and do not need to complete the program independently. The reception teachers will send their student’s sheets to the library upon completion.
The first eight books on the student reading record need to be from the PRC list. The Library Team have put special PRC stickers on the PRC books to identify them. Red stickers (R-2), Green stickers (3-5), Yellow stickers (6-9).
Families may also go to the PRC website where you are able to check if a particular book is on the list: www.premiersreadingchallenge.sa.edu.au
This website is helpful because as much as the Library Team try to put stickers on all the books, we do miss some. Also, if a book is from a shop, another library or home, you may need to check. The last four books on the student reading record are free choice books. They can even be take-home reading texts (readers). The students may also like to utilise our school’s e-platform for further reading and audio materials.
Once your child has completely filled out the reading record, including their 12 books, please return the reading record to your child’s class teacher.
Please call or email the school if you have any questions and I will be glad to give you additional information.

Lacrosse SA Primary Schools Carnival
Boys and Girls Champions
On Friday 5 April, Linden Park Primary proudly fielded two teams to represent the school at the Lacrosse SA Primary Schools Carnival. Held at the Burnside Lacrosse Club, this event saw students from Years 4-6 engaging in spirited competition against other local primary schools.
Our school was well-represented with both boys and girls teams taking part in the carnival. Leading up to the event, students dedicated their lunchtimes to training, ensuring they were fully prepared to showcase their skills on the field. It was truly inspiring to witness students from different year levels come together as one cohesive team.
Throughout the carnival, both teams demonstrated commendable sportsmanship and enthusiasm, playing each of their four minor round games with great spirit. The girls' team kicked off with strong wins in their initial matches, facing formidable opponents, many of whom were in Year 6.
Meanwhile, the boys' team proved themselves as a force to be reckoned with, remaining undefeated in the minor round games, demonstrating exceptional skill and determination.
The girls' team's outstanding performance earned them a spot in the grand final for the Year 4/5 division, while the boys secured their place in their respective division's grand final. With nerves running high, both teams channelled their energy into stellar performances during the grand finals. When the final whistle blew, both Linden Park teams emerged victorious, proudly claiming the title of champions at the Lacrosse SA Primary Schools Carnival.
In addition to their impressive victories, what truly stood out was the remarkable teamwork displayed by our students. Coming together from different year levels, many meeting for the first time during training, they seamlessly united on the field, demonstrating support for one another. Their ability to collaborate, communicate, and trust each other's abilities was instrumental in securing their success in the grand finals. It was a testament to the inclusive and supportive community fostered at Linden Park Primary, where students from different year levels can come together to achieve great results.
A special thank you to parent volunteers Ryan T. and Dennis S. who assisted on the day.
Year 4 student and member of the girls team, Mya B, summarised is perfectly at the conclusion of the carnival… “The teams LaCRUSHED IT!”

Year 5/6 Statewide Knockout Cricket Competition – Round 2
In the first match of Week 1, Linden Park Primary squared off against Rose Park Primary School at Mariner Oval in their second round clash of the Statewide Schools Knockout Cricket Competition. Following successful outings in their opening matches, both teams were poised for a competitive showdown, knowing that victory would propel them into the next round.
Blessed with yet another glorious day for cricket, the match kicked off with Captains Thomas D and Blake M winning the toss and opting to bowl first.
Rose Park made a solid start, capitalising on some early fielding lapses from Linden Park to notch up runs on the scoreboard. However, Linden Park regrouped after the drinks break, reclaiming the momentum. By the end of their innings, Rose Park had amassed a total of 113 runs.
Linden Park's response did not unfold as planned, with the loss of early wickets setting them back. Nonetheless, they fought back valiantly, forging crucial partnerships in the middle order to keep their chase alive. Just as victory seemed within grasp, Rose Park showcased their fielding prowess with some exceptional catches.
As the game entered its final two overs, Linden Park found themselves needing to maintain a run rate of almost a run per ball to reach the target. With the match hanging in the balance, Linden Park took calculated risks in their running between the wickets, managing to edge closer to the required total. However, their fortunes dwindled as they fell short of the mark, ultimately finishing with a total of 106 runs off their allotted 20 overs.
Despite the disappointment of being knocked out of the competition, Linden Park's spirited performance deserves recognition. The team showcased resilience and determination throughout the tournament, representing their school with pride and commitment.
A special thank you to parent volunteer Linda D for her support throughout the match.

Year 5/6 Statewide Knockout Netball – Year 5/6 Boys & Girls
On Tuesday 7 May, Linden Park Primary School proudly fielded both a girls' and a boys' knockout Netball team at the School Sport SA Statewide Year 5/6 Netball Carnival held at the Netball SA Stadium in Mile End during Week 2 of Term 2.
After weeks of rigorous trials and training sessions, 16 talented players were selected to represent Linden Park Primary School in this highly anticipated event. The day unfolded with excitement as both teams engaged in spirited competition, each playing five games against primary schools from across Adelaide.
The boys' team made an impressive start, clinching victory in their first five matches and securing the top spot in their group. The peak of their day came in a fiercely contested showdown against Stella Maris, where both teams showcased exceptional skill and determination. Despite a valiant effort from Linden Park, Stella Maris emerged victorious with a final score of 15-11. Nonetheless, the remarkable progress and improvement demonstrated by the boys throughout the day were truly commendable.
Meanwhile, the girls' team also enjoyed a successful carnival, triumphing in four out of their five matches. Finishing as runners-up in their group, they faced a formidable opponent in St Peter’s Woodlands in a nail-biting encounter that went down to the wire. With the score tied and only seconds remaining, a clutch goal secured a thrilling one-point victory for Linden Park. This victory propelled them into a showdown against Westminster, where their stellar defensive performance limited the opposition to just three goals, allowing Linden Park to emerge victorious with an 8-3 score line.
The girls' outstanding performance saw them finish among the top two teams out of 16 in the Large Schools Division. Their next challenge awaits in the form of Mercedes College, with the opportunity to progress to the State Final Carnival in the coming weeks.
A heartfelt thank you goes out to all the students for their unwavering dedication and hard work throughout the trials, trainings and the carnival. Both the boys and girls demonstrated exemplary sportsmanship and camaraderie, supporting each other every step of the way. Special appreciation is extended to the parents whose volunteer efforts with transport and assistance on the day were invaluable and greatly appreciated by the school and students.
A special acknowledgment goes to Kate Low (Year 6 Teacher), for her support to the girls' team. Best wishes are extended to the girls' team as they prepare for their upcoming match against Mercedes College.

A new online registration of interest form is now available for parents of students starting secondary school in 2025 to complete. It is recommended that you use Chrome as your internet browser to complete this form.
