Principal's Report
Dear Parents, Guardians, and Students,
End of day routines
I am reminding everyone of our student pick-up policy; an essential part of ensuring the safety and smooth operation of our school. Students are expected to be collected promptly at 3:10pm each day. This time allows our staff to manage a safe and orderly dismissal process, ensuring that all students leave the premises safely and are accounted for.
The school provides supervision to oversee the hand-over of care to families either through collection from the classrooms, pick-up from the exit points and safe passage for students who are leaving of their own accord.
Supervision is not provided for students playing on the playground, the courts or wandering through the school grounds.
The Early Years playgrounds has remained open to enable younger children to gather under the supervision of their parents. This allows families new to our school to connect and develop relationships.
We currently have students who are avoiding leaving the school grounds in a timely manner, staying and playing with their friends, ignoring teacher requests.
Students who are waiting to be collected are asked to wait by the exit points, those students making their own way home are expected to do so once they have been dismissed. Students attending a sporting clinic are asked to report to their coaches.
The Primary Years playground will remain closed as the majority of older students do not have parents providing supervision.
We understand that schedules and parking can be challenging, but we kindly ask for your cooperation in reminding children to wait in the designated areas or leave when dismissed. Prompt pick-up helps us maintain a secure and efficient environment for all students.
Parent Forum for parents and carers of children with a disability
Parents and carers of children with disability are invited to join a free parent forum on Thursday 12 September 2024. The forum will focus on department services and processes available to support school refusal.
Participants will also have the opportunity to connect with the Assistant Director Inclusive Practice and SIES Senior Advisors.
The information presented and the knowledge gained through shared discussions, table talk and workshops with the parents and carers further develop and help inform policy and future direction. The questions raised and topics requested are ongoing, informative and challenging. This page has been established so parents can access the wide range of material that have been created through the forums and linked to the Parent Forum summary report including keynote PowerPoints, video presentations and summaries of the day’s activities.

Attendance Data
The LPPS attendance rate over time, 2022 – 2024, indicates a decline of 3%, down from 96% to 93%. Historically LPPS has a strong tradition of exceeding the state target of 94%
Current data includes significant absenteeism due to Family /Social reasons. It should be noted that many children have cultural connections with international communities that accounts for this data, students benefit from being immersed in other cultures, languages and ways of life – all contributing to being internationally minded!
Kind regards,
Fiona Voigt, Principal

Q&A on Hay
Last week on Thursday night the Student Learning and Wellbeing Committee invited the parent community to attend a parent workshop around AI in Primary Schools. This was facilitated by Dr Rebecca Marrone from the Centre for Change and Complexity in Learning of the University of South Australia. Seventy five parents attended this session to learn about what and how we should use AI for primary aged students. The session explored how AI is revolutionising learning, enhancing teaching methods, and preparing our children for the future. Practical applications were discussed, the benefits, and potential challenges of AI in the classroom. Parents gained valuable insights on supporting their child's education in this digital age.
A big thank you to Dr Rebecca and to all the parents who attended the session.

Book Week
Reading is Magic! Book Week 2024
Book Week turned out to be a very busy and successful week! It was amazing to see all the students, families and staff come together to recognise the magic in reading.
Scholastic Book Fair
Thank you to the families who purchased books from the Scholastic Book Fair. The sale of the items assisted in raising funds for the library to purchase new books from Scholastic.
Sustainable Book Swap
It was great to see the students being able to be swap their unused books for 'new' books. Thank you to the teachers who organised their year levels to participate in this activity.
Danny Snell -Illustrator/Author
All of the students were able to participate in sessions with the award winning, bestselling children's book illustrator and author Danny Snell. Based in Adelaide, Danny has had 26 books published. Danny's latest book 'One Little Duck' was a 'Book of the Year; Early Childhood' shortlisted book in this year's Children's Book Council of Australia awards.
The students and teachers enjoyed learning some drawing techniques from him as well as hearing about his books (and the steps that it takes to create the illustrations) during the sessions.
Whole School Picnic
Friday 23 August saw all of the classes gather on Sanders Oval for a whole school picnic. It was wonderful to see the students enjoy a 'Book Week' recess with their buddy classes.
Whole School Parade and Assembly
The Book Week parade and assembly was a favourite event for the students and teacher alike. Thank you to the families who assisted their children with their amazing costumes and props!
Congratulations to Genevieve (Year 6), Lucia (Year 5), Ishani (Year 4) and Ruby (Year 3) who won the Bookmark Design Competition.
Well done to Vanessa Buttery for winning the teacher costume competition!
Little Free Library
Book Week saw our 'Little Free Library' officially opened. Students are encouraged to donate any unwanted books to the 'Little Free Library'.
What is a Little Free Library?
A Little Free Library is a free book-sharing box where anyone may take a book or share a book. It functions on the honour system. You do not need to give a book in order to take one. If a book is taken, we ask for another book to be placed in the box if you have one, whenever you can.

Year 3 |Museum of South Australia excursion
As part of our Unit of Inquiry ‘Where we are in place and time’ and the central idea ‘Understanding similarities and differences empowers people to make connections’ our Year 3 students visited the South Australian Museum on Tuesday 27 August. The students worked in small groups visiting the Pacific Cultures exhibition; which is the largest display of Pacific material in Australia, with around 3,000 bows, arrows, spears, shields, utensils, ornaments, masks and ritual objects exhibited.
Year 4 | Maritime Museum excursion
As part of the Unit of Inquiry; ‘Where we are in time and place’ and the early colonisation of Australia, Year 4 students visited the Maritime Museum to undertake their ‘Life on Board’ program. This program asked students to consider the experience of life on board for migrants voyaging by ship from England to South Australia in 1836; Where did they sleep? What did they eat and drink?, How did they cope with illness on board? How did they while away the long days on deck? The students also explored the changing motivations for migrating over time and the evolution of sea travel from sailing ships through to steam and modern cruise liners.
Year 5 |Nature Building excursion
As part of our Unit of Inquiry ‘How the world works’ and the central idea ‘Environmental changes influence future actions’, our Year 5 students participated in a 90 min Mobile Cubby building workshop at school. Collaborating in small groups, the students developed creativity, cooperation, and resilience and addressed key criteria in the Year 5 Design and Technologies curriculum. The experience allowed students to use natural, open-ended resources to problem solve, design and build imaginative cubby creations.
Wellbeing News
Student Wellbeing Leaders
One of the areas our Student Wellbeing Leaders are focusing on is school belonging. This is an important area to consider as it allows us to know whether students feel included and accepted at school and if they make friends easily.
When students have a good sense of belonging at school they benefit in both their social and emotional development and this flows onto increases in academic achievement.
If your child is experiencing issues at school, please do not hesitate to contact me at the school for a chat.
SAC News
Student Action Committees (SAC) have decided the hold a pyjama day at the end of this term. The gold coin donation will go to Backpacks 4 SA Kids. This charity helps children who for a number of reasons have to leave home with little or no notice and often have no clothing or other essentials other than what they are wearing. If you would like to donate or become involved in this worthwhile charity, please click on the link below.
Don’t forget SAC badges can be purchased through the QKR app for $4.00.
DID YOU KNOW?
Homelessness is a worldwide issue with an estimated 150 million people or 2% of the global population experiencing homelessness.
In Australia the 2021 census found that 122,494 people were estimated to be experiencing homelessness.
Of 122,494 people, 17,646 children under 12 years of age were homeless.
In South Australia in 2021, 42 people out of every 100 were homeless. www.abs.gov.au
It is important for children to learn about homelessness which occurs in the cities in which they live.
Parents can gauge how much their children can understand, and younger children do not need to be told about all the reasons that can cause a person to be homeless, which can be beyond their comprehension or even inappropriate for young children to know about.
Although homeless people who are sleeping rough may look scary, they are still people who deserve to be treated with dignity and respect."

Adelaide South East District Soccer
During Week 5 of Term 3, five of our talented students from Linden Park Primary School had the honour of representing the Adelaide South East District at the State Soccer Carnival. These students were selected as some of the top players in the Adelaide South East School District and competed in a prestigious event featuring teams from across South Australia.
Caitlin T and Jescinta N (Year 6) were chosen to represent the girls' team, and both thoroughly enjoyed the invaluable experience. Their participation highlighted their skill and commitment to the sport.
A special congratulations to Gianluca Z, Daniele B and Cristiano V (Year 6), who were selected for the boys' team. Their team performed exceptionally well, going undefeated throughout the carnival and securing the gold medal—a remarkable achievement that reflects their hard work and dedication.
We are incredibly proud of all the students who represented our school at this event. Their achievements are a testament to their talent and sportsmanship.

Primary School String Orchestra
This term a select group of students from Linden Park Primary School in Years 4-6 have been busily rehearsing in the Primary School String Orchestra. The ensemble is based at Norwood Primary School and rehearse every Tuesday. In Week 4 they were involved in a Music Camp, so they could tour and play for other schools. This was a wonderful experience for all involved and culminated in a special recording of the ABC News Theme at the ABC Recording Studio. What a fantastic opportunity for all involved. Next time you watch the news, listen for our wonderful musicians performing. Log in to ABC iView to listen to SA Primary Schools String Orchestra performs ABC News theme
This is a reflection written by Louie M. from Year 4 in Room 25 who plays the cello in the Primary School String Orchestra:
My Orchestra experience by: Louie M (Room 25) ...........
This year I got the chance to join the Primary School String Orchestra. We have rehearsals every Tuesday to learn and practice different songs with kids from 20 different primary schools in South Australia. It is an excellent experience for me to play music with others.
Recently, we completed a three day tour/camp performing at five Department for Education schools: Belair, Coromandel, Black Forest, Unley and Marion Primary Schools.
On 19 August 2024 we had the very special and unique opportunity to perform on national TV, celebrating the comeback of the iconic ABC News theme. We performed in the large ABC Orchestra Recording Studio and were also interviewed by news presenter Richard Davies.
PSSO will next be playing as part of the Festival of Music at the Festival Theatre. We will be guest artists performing “Test Drive” from How to Train Your Dragon.
I am very proud of our achievements in the wider community. I also learned a lot from the orchestra. The orchestra experience gave me a much better understanding on “teamwork makes dream work”. Together, we make the impossible possible.
Student News
Oliver P (Room 26) and Louie M (Room 25) have both won a spot in the 'The Primary Schools String Orchestra' as Cello players.
Congratulations on your excellent performance during the Music camp and TV show; we are very proud of your achievements in the wider community.
