Principal's Report
Dear Parents/Caregivers
Celebrating the Term that was…….
As we look back on this Term, it is clear that our school has been buzzing with activity and achievement. From academic pursuits to artistic expressions and athletic endeavours, our students have showcased their talents and dedication in the most splendid ways.
Excursions to Inspire and Educate
Our students broadened their horizons with enriching excursions and incursions to the Museum, Art Gallery, Maritime Museum, Nature play, Sugar Inc. and the Botanic Gardens. These trips were not just informative; they were transformative experiences that stimulated curiosity and fostered a love for learning outside the classroom.
Festival of Music and Instrumental Music Concert Performances
Our students captivating audiences at the Festival of Music and Instrumental Music Concert Performances. The choir's enchanting performances brought pure joy and pride to everyone in attendance. Their commitment to practice and the harmony of their voices highlighted the diverse talents at Linden Park. Our musicians were not to be outshone, with strings and band performances that created energy aplenty.
Academic Excellence: ICAS & Australian Maths Assessments
Academically, our students excelled in the ICAS assessments, demonstrating remarkable knowledge and skills. This achievement reflects their hard work and the unwavering support from our dedicated teachers and parents.
Sporting Triumphs
In sports, our students showed their prowess in the Sports SA carnivals, including several where we topped the competition. These victories are a testament to their perseverance, teamwork, and sportsmanship. Congratulations to all our athletes!
The Excitement of Learning Journeys and Year 6 Exhibition
Learning Journeys and the Year 6 Exhibition added to the excitement and pressure of the term. These events allowed our students to showcase their inquiry projects and learning progress. We are grateful to the parents for their enthusiastic support and advocacy, underscoring the strong partnership between home and school in our students' education.
IB Evaluation: A Proud Moment for Linden Park
The term culminated with our IB Evaluation, where a panel spent two days reviewing all that is Linden Park Primary School. Their feedback was overwhelmingly positive, recognising the incredible efforts of our staff, students, and broader community. This evaluation reflects our commitment to excellence in providing an international education framework that nurtures and challenges our students.
A Community of Pride and Achievement
Looking back, it is evident that every member of our school community—staff, students, Governing Council, and parents—has played a crucial role in making this term a success. The pride and joy expressed by all are palpable, and we are united in celebrating these wonderful achievements. Book Week is testament to the combined efforts of a community; inspired by our Library Team, the culmination of the Book week parade would not be as successful or creative without the support of parents and staff.
As we move forward, let’s carry this spirit of collaboration, dedication, and excellence into the next term. Thank you for being part of our vibrant and inspiring school community!

LPPS: 2025 | M&S Fee
Dear Families,
Linden Park Governing Council have reviewed the Materials & Services (M & S) Fees and the Incursions & Excursions Levy for 2025. Our M & S fees and Excursion Levy have been relatively stable over the past two years; with 2023 fees remaining unchanged and 2024 including a minimal increase of $10.00 to the M&S fees, whilst the Excursion Levy was decreased by the same amount - a net zero impact for parents.
Materials & Services fees
In setting the M & S Fees, consideration has been given to the resources and equipment your child/ren require to engage in their learning. M & S Fees for 2025 will increase to $490; an increase of 4.2% compared to the current rate of inflation (CPI), sitting at 4.5% in South Australia. We have also explored the fees and charges of other local schools; the highest being $520 and the lowest $455, with Linden Park Primary positioned mid-range.
The Excursion/Incursion Levy
The Excursion/Incursion Levy will increase by $10 to $170.00. This increase alone does not cover the increase in transport costs or the overall costs to support or students to engage in these wonderful first-hand experiences. As a community we value the excursions and incursions used to promote children’s curiosity and authentic exposure to new learning.
The 2024 Incursions/Excursions levy has supported your child’s engagement in the following:
Linden Park Primary School Governing Council is considering the Materials & Services Charge for 2025. A copy of the ‘Notice’ of the proposed charge for 2025 is below.
The charge is intended to cover the costs of those essential items and services used or consumed by individual students during the course of their study. These costs are for items such as access to equipment, stationery and essential activities. The proposed charge for 2025 is keep the fee at $490.00.
An invitation is extended to all members of our school community to attend an Open Governing Council Meeting on Monday 28 October at 7.00pm in the staff room. This will be an opportunity for parents/caregivers to discuss with the Governing Council.

Learning Journeys
Learning in the Primary Years Programme (PYP) provides many formal and informal reporting opportunities for students to demonstrate how they have developed and applied their knowledge, conceptual understandings, skills and learner profile attributes through the inquiries they undertake. Learning Journeys provide an opportunity for parents to experience the PYP in action. As communicators, students are able to verbalise and demonstrate their knowledge on what they have learnt. They lead the journey and share what they have collaborated, investigated, researched, inquired and designed. Last week the Reception, Year 4 and Year 3 students shared their journey and this week the Year 5 and Year 1s completed theirs. The Learning Journeys were held face-to-face in the classroom, where students conversed with family members to explain their thinking.
Reception Learning Journey
How we organise ourselves - “Human made systems help to organise communities”
This Unit of Inquiry investigates how objects can be composed of different materials and how materials have observable properties.
Year 4 Learning Journey
Sharing the planet - “Colonisation impacts communities”
This Unit of Inquiry investigates into the diversity of experiences of people in Australia prior to and following 1788. The students describe the effects of colonisation on people and environments.
Year 3 Learning Journey
Where we are in place and time - “Understanding similarities and differences between places enables people to make connections”
This Unit of Inquiry investigates into the similarities and differences between places in Australia and neighbouring counters in terms of their natural, managed and constructed features.
Year 1 Learning Journey
How we organise ourselves - “Everyday decisions affect the environment”
This Unit of Inquiry investigates the natural, managed and constructed features of places. Students learn about how decisions impact these environments and how to care for them.
Year 5 Learning Journey
How the World Works- “Environmental changes influence future actions”
In this Unit of Inquiry students learn about the management of Australian environments, including managing severe weather events such as bushfires, floods, droughts or cyclones, and their consequences.

PYP Evaluation visit
On Wednesday and Thursday this week we had our International Baccalaureate (IB) Primary Years Programme (PYP) evaluation visit. The Evaluation happens every 5 years with the purpose to reflect and improve on the PYP. Programme evaluation is the primary means of ensuring that schools are meeting the IB programme standards and practices. This process can also serve as a catalyst for continual school improvement.
We had the pleasure of welcoming Michael Bowmer from the Barossa and Rachna Sharma from India as our evaluators.
The feedback from this process was very encouraging and positive. The evaluators highlighted that we are a collaborative school that successfully implements the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme IB PYP. The students that met with the Evaluators were able to articulate their learning and understanding and explained how they see schooling at Linden Park as being caring, happy, supportive, engaged and challenging. The support of the parents’ group, including Governing Council members was also recognised. They enjoyed participating in the Year 6 Exhibition and many of you at the Year 6 Exhibition may have had a conversation with our guests, without even knowing it.
A big thank you to everyone that was involved in preparing and sharing during their visit. We truly are lucky to work in such a supportive school community. The full evaluation report should be here by the end of the year.
Nicole Scrivener, Deputy Principal: Innovation and Inquiry
Year 6 Exhibition 2024
In the final year of the PYP, students carry out an extended, in-depth, collaborative investigation known as the PYP Exhibition. Students engage in a transdisciplinary inquiry process that involves them in identifying, investigating and offering solutions to real-life issues or problems. The idea around the Exhibition draws on all the things students have learned, the attitudes and behaviors they have developed, as well as the skills students have developed over their entire primary schooling experience. It also provides the wonderful opportunity to celebrate the transition of learners to the next phase of their education (high school).
After a term of meticulous research, collaboration and inquiry into a range of areas, our Year 6 students were able to share their learning on Wednesday 25 September. Students investigated a range of focus areas around the central theme ‘How the World Works’. They began their research using the IB concepts and developed three 'big questions' that linked to the central idea of ‘Curiosity creates change'.
Students were grouped into interest groups of about four people who were doing a similar topic. The focus of the Exhibition was around collaboration and so it was important for students to work with others during the investigating stage. Staff across the school gave up their time to help mentor groups to ensure students had ample opportunity to verbalise their learning and discuss their planning. Despite sometimes feeling overwhelmed with the magnitude of work, they have come out with flying colours and showed motivation, passion and commitment beyond their years. They should all be commended for an amazing Exhibition night, an incredibly well self-directed term and a successful finish to the PYP. We extend a big thank you to the Year 6 teachers and staff that mentored students for all their hard work to make this event possible.

Learning Journey’s and Year 6 Exhibition
It’s hard to believe that we are at the end of Term 3 already, and what a busy term it has been.
I was so impressed with the Learning Journeys in each year level and the Year 6 exhibition, both of which I had the privilege of seeing. Whilst there was lots of fantastic learning on show, one thing that wasn’t lost on me was the amount of parents who attended.
It was so nice to see how proud students where in showcasing their learning and how proud parents were in witnessing and celebrating the effort their child had put in.
It was a privilege to be able to celebrate those moments with you.
Friendology Trial
I’m excited to announce that next term, we will be trialling a whole school social and emotion program called Friendology.
Friendology is all about empowering kids with friendship skills while providing the adults in their lives, both parents and teachers, with a common language to support them. Kids learn what’s normal in a friendship, the difference between healthy and unhealthy friendships and how to stand up for themselves with kid-friendly concepts.
The best part is families will have access to the program at home.
More information to come next term.
Pyjama Day
End of term dress ups are one of my favourite times of the school term and it was fantastic to see everyone dressed in their pyjamas and supporting a great cause such as Backpacks 4 Kids.
Wishing you a relaxing and safe holiday and well done to everyone who wore their pyjamas.
And while we’re on the subject of pyjamas!
Did you know?
In the Middle Ages, most pyjamas were essentially shapeless with simple trimmings. These were made by the wives and daughters of the family; easy to assemble and quick to create. It was only royalty and those of noble birth who wore pyjamas that were more than a simple long dress; their designs were inspired by Indian, Asian, and Roman costumes: large dress-shaped attires with wide sleeves for added comfort.
In fact, the word pyjama or pajama isn’t of Western origin: it comes from the Hindi word “pae jama” or “pai jama”, which translates to leg clothing and dates as far back as the 13th century Ottoman Empire. Pyjamas were traditionally loose trousers or drawers with a cord or drawstring to tie around the waist, and these were worn by both women and men throughout the Middle East and South Asia, including Bangladesh, Pakistan, Iran, and southern India.
The transition to the modern pyjama over the 20th century involved a move away from formal habits and by the 1970s, more and more individuals had begun wearing the silk shirt-and-pants sets inspired from Chinese and Indian sleepwear. Women had also started adopting the unisex look, wearing the same top-and-pants sets for men. You can read more at: The Origin of Pyjamas - A Brief History of Sleepwear – RADICE (radicesleep.com)

Year 5 | Museum in a Box
During the inquiry into "Where we are in place and time" the year five students were able to experience an excursion to the Maritime Museum at Port Adelaide as well as exploring the museum's mobile "Museum in a Box" during their guided inquiry and class time.
What is a Museum in a Box?
The 'Museum in a Box' is a curriculum-aligned education kit designed to be used in classrooms. Each box takes an object-based learning approach to exploring history – particularly focusing on South Australian stories. By interacting with objects of the past, the Museum in a Box project makes history come alive for students.
The students enjoyed interacting with the items as well as developing their historical knowledge base, cultural awareness, research skills and critical thinking skills.

Travelling in style ……
There’s an old saying, "Nothing ventured, nothing gained!"
Hazel Sandery, Room 5, was a risk-taker and it paid-off. Hazel won the SAFM deluxe drop off by calling the radio station in the morning.
The question she had to answer was "What do you want to be when you grow up?"
Hazel replied with "A singer".
SAFM asked Hazel "What would your name be?" and Hazel replied "Purple, because Pink is already taken!"
SAFM called Hazel back to tell her that she had won!
On Friday morning, Hazel arrived in style, driven to school in an Lamborghini by Demi and escorted by Black Thunder.
Year 3/4 Tennis
Adelaide South East District Carnival
On Thursday 19 September (Week 9) Linden Park Primary School had eight students represent the school at the Adelaide South East District Hotshot Tennis Carnival held at Tennisworld, Millswood.
For some of our students, this event marked their very first opportunity to showcase their skills while proudly donning the Linden Park Primary School colours in a competitive sporting arena.
Throughout the day, our students engaged in spirited competition against counterparts from a number of other local schools. The format included a series of doubles-matches against these school teams, providing ample opportunities for our young athletes to demonstrate their tennis skills.
The event was more than just a carnival; it was a great experience that encompassed various aspects of sportsmanship and fun. Tennis SA coaches hosted an engaging coaching session to refine the players' techniques and enhance their love for the game.
In an impressive display of talent and teamwork, our Linden Park team emerged as an undefeated winner in the ‘pathway’ division. Such an outstanding performance has earned our team the opportunity to advance to the Tennis SA Hotshots State Finals, scheduled for November later this year.
We would like to sincerely thank our parent volunteers who were able to assist with transport on the day.
Congratulations to all students who participated in this memorable event – Evan, William, Billy, Oli, Louis, Brian, Jessie and Sayna. We look forward to cheering on our team as they embark on the next exciting chapter of their tennis journey at the State Finals. Keep swinging for success!

Thank you to our parent volunteers
As another sporting season draws to a close, Linden Park Primary would like to say a huge 'thank you' to our dedicated parent volunteers who selflessly dedicated their time to coach their child’s sporting teams throughout Terms 2 and 3.
Your commitment has made a significant impact on our students, allowing them to experience the joys of playing sport for their school. Your contributions are invaluable, and we applaud your unwavering support in nurturing our young students. Without your assistance, our sporting teams simply cannot go ahead. Thank you!

Linden Park Girls Shine at SANFL Sturt Shield
On Wednesday 18 September (Week 9), our Linden Park Primary girls' football team competed in the SANFL Sturt Shield at Seymour College. The girls played six matches in a modified nine-a-side football carnival, facing off against other local schools in the Sturt area.
It was a fantastic day of football, with the team winning three of their six matches, securing a commendable 5th place overall. For many of the girls, this was their first experience playing football, and it was wonderful to see them embrace the challenge and grow in confidence as the day progressed.
One of the highlights of the carnival was the strong team spirit. The girls supported one another throughout the day, playing with great sportsmanship and dedication. This event provided an excellent opportunity for our students to develop their football skills, and we are incredibly proud of their effort and teamwork.
Well done to all the girls for their hard work and thank you to the parent volunteers for assisting throughout the day with supervision and transport.
Volleyball SA
Linden Park Volleyball Teams Shine at State Finals
On Thursday 19 September (Week 9), two of our volleyball teams from Linden Park Primary School competed in the State Final Volleyball SA Carnival, held at The Lights Community and Sports Centre in Lightsview. Both teams earned their spot in the finals after securing top 2 finishes earlier in the term, and they were eager to take on the next challenge.
Teams from across South Australia participated in the finals, with only the best from previous qualifying carnivals making the cut. The competition was fierce, and the standard of play was higher than ever. Our Year 6 team rose to the challenge and delivered a solid performance throughout the tournament. Meanwhile, our Year 5 team proved to be the standout in their division, losing only one game on their way to clinching the State Championship — an incredible achievement!
Congratulations to both teams for their outstanding efforts, and a special shout-out to the Year 5 team for bringing home the championship title. What an amazing accomplishment for Linden Park Primary! A special thank you to the parents who volunteered to assist with transport, without your support the carnival would not have been able to go ahead.

On Saturday 21 September, one of Linden Park Primary School's netball teams competed in their division's grand final. The girls put in tremendous effort throughout the season, honing their individual skills and coming together as a strong team. They played an outstanding game in the Grand Final, ultimately finishing as Runners Up. Congratulations to the Linden Park Grey team for an impressive winter season!

School Sport SA | Athletics Metro Day
On Tuesday 17 September, the School Sport SA Athletics Metro Day was held at Athletics SA Stadium, Mile End. As a result of some outstanding school results in the Adelaide South East carnival a few weeks prior, Linden Park PS had 10 students selected to represent the District competing against the very best athletes from across the state. This number was comfortably more than we have had in previous years, further indicating the strength of our athletes this year!
All students participated admirably, and acquitted themselves well against some outstanding competition. A huge congratulations must go to Emily, Eddie, Leo, Oliver, Harris, Elina, Elaine, Gianluca, Jayden and Murphy who were all chosen to represent the Adelaide South East team in various events.
There are some individual results which I would like to highlight now – Eddie won a Bronze Medal for a brilliant 3rd placing in the 11 year old boys Discus, Elaine won a Silver Medal as a pivotal part of the 11 year old girls 4 x 100m Relay team. I have saved one student and her achievements until last however - Murphy won a Gold Medal in the 12 year old girls Discus with a throw of 27.85m, winning the event by over 6 metres and earning herself an invite to be a member of the SA State Team and travel to Sydney in November. This was also the second consecutive year that Murphy has been crowned a state champion, a truly remarkable achievement and one which we congratulate her for. We certainly wish her all the very best for her upcoming trip to Sydney.

Year 4 | PE in Term 3
This term in Year 4 PE, students embarked on a Sports Education Program that combined learning about Indigenous games with developing skills in volleyball. Linked to our unit on “Where We Are in Place and Time,” the term began with students exploring historical Indigenous games, with a particular focus on Kai—a traditional game with similarities to volleyball. By recognising this connection, students gained a deeper understanding of how modern sports have evolved from cultural traditions, an important aspect of their inquiry into the central idea, “Colonisation impacts communities”
With this foundation, we transitioned into our volleyball unit. Students were allocated into teams and created flags and team names, fostering collaboration and identity. Beyond learning how to play volleyball, students also took on roles such as umpiring, scoring, timing, and managing equipment during matches. This approach encouraged leadership and organisation, while reinforcing IB learner profiles like being communicators and principled.
In parallel to the volleyball unit, students explored target games during their outdoor PE lessons. Drawing from their knowledge of Indigenous games, they were tasked with designing their own target games in the same teams used for volleyball. Over several weeks, students brainstormed, tested, and refined their ideas. This process of inquiry and reflection reinforced their understanding of the IB key concept of "change," as they adapted their designs to create fun, fair, and challenging games.
The term concluded with students teaching their target games to Year 2 students, providing a fantastic opportunity for leadership and sharing. This was a reflective moment where students passed on their skills and made final adjustments to their games in practice.
Overall, this term has been a journey of connection, teamwork, and responsibility, where students not only developed volleyball skills but also explored Indigenous culture and embraced leadership roles.

Linden Park Sport Aerobics
In early August, Linden Park Sport Aerobics Club, which is made up of predominantly Linden Park Primary School students and old scholars, competed at School Aerobics Nationals held in Adelaide. The club entered four teams who all performed extremely well, achieving four gold medals for their efforts!
In late August, a large contingent of the club travelled to the Gold Coast to compete at FISAF Nationals. The club also performed extremely well at this competition and our current LPPS students achieved excellent results in what was a very challenging competition.
Linden Park Sport Aerobics is an exceptional club who consistently achieves outstanding results on a national stage. Year after year the club punches well above their weight and this is all the more impressive given the club draws almost all its athletes from a relatively small population (Linden Park PS) unlike larger clubs who draw their athletes from anywhere and everywhere.
We are extremely proud of our club and especially of our competitors who are current Linden Park Primary School students. Their results are outlined below:-

LPPS Music Gala Night
On Thursday 5 September, we had our inaugural Music Gala Night at the beautiful Burnside Town Hall. Families and friends were entertained by our wonderful Year 6 Festival Choir, Beginner Strings, String Ensemble, Beginner Band and Continuing Band. Sam and Genevieve did a wonderful job compering the evening and even had the audience laughing at their funny musical jokes like ‘Why did the singer climb a ladder? She wanted to reach the high notes!’ and ‘What kind of music are balloons afraid of? Pop Music!’
A special thank you to our talented instrumental teachers, Margie Hopgood (strings), Peter Matzick (Percussion), Sarah Butler (brass) and Ruth Woerner (woodwind), as well as Deborah Brennon (choir teacher) for all their hard work with our students.
Festival of Music
On Tuesday 10 September, our Year 6 Festival Choir performed at the prestigious Festival Theatre in Adelaide with about 12 other schools from South Australia. The choir has been rehearsing each week since February with many songs including two part harmony and choreography. This year, two of our students were selected to sing a solo in the Festival, Jenny Wang in Proud and Alexa King as the rapper in Beautiful Creatures which really showcased the learner profile ‘risk-taker’. They both were brilliant and did Linden Park proud! Well done girls! Congratulations to all students involved in the 2024 Festival of Music. I’m sure they will agree that it is a lot of work but so rewarding being able to perform in a professional theatre and stage environment! 'A memory that will not be forgotten.'

Reminder | Hats
This is an important reminder for all students to have a hat packed for school every day!
As part of our LPPS uniform code; all students at Linden Park Primary School must wear a maroon broad-brimmed, bucket, or legionnaire's style hat during outdoor school activities from 1 September 2024 to 30 April 2025.
Compliance with this policy is essential for protecting our students from harmful sun exposure.
