25 February 2022 - Week 4 Term 1
Principal's Report
Dear parents and families,
Our new normal at school continues to be defined as we welcomed the rest of the students back to school on Monday 14th February. Students are spending time establishing new relationships and co-constructing the expectations and group norms for their new learning environments. I would like to acknowledge the strength of collegiality in developing a curricula that will ensure that students experience consistency across year levels. This has been most evident in the virtual Acquaintance Evenings that teams have facilitated.
The virtual forums have been well attended with the Year 1 team attracting an audience of 92 parents. Thus far, year level teams have connected with over 350 families with the final two forums* scheduled over the next week (*Year 3 to be rescheduled).
COVID Update
My thanks to families for keeping their children home when they are unwell or show symptoms associated with COVID-19. It is the two days prior that is believed to be the infectious period, as a result we are letting families know if their children have been exposed during this time frame.
Parents are promptly reporting positive cases which supports the school to revisit protocols to ensure we are minimising the risk to spreading infection.
As from next week, commencing 28th March 2022, the following changes to COVID restrictions will come into place:
- Day excursions (indoors and outdoors) and incursions (held outdoors where possible).
- Swimming lessons and sports days (spectators may attend if held outside).
- Interschool sporting competitions.
- Extra-curricular activities at the school including choirs, band practice, instrumental lessons.
- Assemblies that are held outdoors.
- Hiring education sites to community groups outside of school hours can continue as normal.
This is exciting news for staff and students as we head towards the Yr 3 & Yr 4 swimming programs followed by the Years 4-6 swimming trials and the LPPS Yr 4-6 Swimming carnival.
COVID-19 settings that remain in place include:
- Face masks continue to be required (when indoors) for:
- all adults, except when it impedes ability to teach
- Face masks are strongly encouraged for students in years 3 to 6 (when indoors).
- Testing, isolating and quarantine requirements remain unchanged, including classroom contacts.
- Outdoor learning encouraged where possible.
- Continue to open windows and doors or use air-conditioning set to fresh air intake where possible.
LPPS Governing Council AGM
Governing Council AGM is fast approaching with the restrictions lifting just in time to hold the meeting face to face Monday 28th February @ 7.00pm. The AGM includes reporting to community of the past 12 month’s success; learning, financial and governance. The new membership is formed with currently eight opportunities for parents to fill to establish the 2022 Governing Council. I would like to acknowledge our 2021 Governing Councillors for their exceptional service to the school and for those members who are leaving, we wish you all the best.
I look forward to meeting those parents who commit to working alongside me over the next 12 months, guiding my stewardship of the school.
I would like to encourage as many parents as possible to attend. The AGM is a wonderful opportunity to hear the achievements of the school over the past year and to learn about the schools current priorities. All LPPS parents are invited to come—you do not have to be nominating for a position on the Governing Council in order to attend, although it is a good opportunity to offer your expertise,
Road Safety
Please take extra care on Hay & Highfield roads during the school drop off and pick up. We have had many reports of dangerous driving near the children's crossings. Click here to view details regarding parking around schools and we urge all parents to read it carefully.

Staff update
We are fortunate to have Deanna Ceravolo join our dedicated team of educators. Deanna will be teaching in Year 1 Room 6 on Thursdays.
Welcome Deanna to the Linden Park Primary School community.
Library
Welcome back to a new school year and welcome to LPPS to all our new families! The library is a busy and much-loved part of our school. Hopefully in the not-too-distant future parents and caregivers will be able to once again come to the library before and after school, as well as volunteer.
We have had a staffing change in the library. Caroline Wilson, one of our teacher librarians, won a position at UniSA as a cataloguing librarian. We wish her all the best in her new role and she will be dearly missed. We are very fortunate to welcome Russell Hanson, as Caroline’s replacement. Russell will teach 2 days in his year 1 class and 3 days in the library. Our other teacher librarian is Andrea Kipperman and our Library School Support Staff are Nicole Hooper and Caroline Regan.
The first three face-to-face weeks of term one will see the library staff working with all of the classes in library orientation lessons. During this time, students will be taught a range of skills such as how to find books using library signage and our library catalogue, how to be responsible library users and how to reserve books. We will also be setting up library essential agreements so that all students are able to enjoy what the library has to offer.
We have some digital resources that students can access from home or school such as Britannica School, https://school.eb.com.au/ and the Wheelers ebook platform, http://lindenparkprimaryschoollibrary.weebly.com/ebook-platform.html. New students will find out login information during our orientation lessons.
Please see the table below for borrowing information:
Year level | Books to borrow | Time period for loans |
R | 1 | 1 week |
1 | 2 | 1 week |
2-4 | 4 | 2 weeks |
5-6 | 5 | 2 weeks |
Students may reborrow books by bringing them back to the library and having them rescanned. |
For students who have overdue books, we allow them to borrow 1 book if only 1 book is overdue. If more than one book is overdue, then we ask that they return their books before borrowing others.
Unfortunately, at the end of the 2021 school year many books were not returned or had gone missing from the shelves. Hence there will be a “Book Amnesty” for the next two weeks! It would be wonderful if students and families could hunt high and low for any library books that may be at home. No questions asked! Please locate and return! We would like to spend our library budget on purchasing new resources not replacing the missing items. Thank you for your support.
Postive Behaviour Education
Throughout 2021 all staff reviewed our Behaviour Support Policy. Children can display a range of behaviours when they respond to an emotion. At Linden Park Primary School we promote a school wide positive behaviour approach to support children regulate and manage their behaviours.
- We educate all students on identifying and reflecting on their emotions and behaviours. This happens through consistent conversation with individuals or classes, modelling and highlighting appropriate behaviours and labelling a range of behaviours and emotions to broaden the children’s emotional literacy.
- Staff members will intervene in situations when they believe a student is at risk to themselves or others in order to prevent, reduce or redirect behaviours of concern. This intervention is done with positive intention of including children in positive experiences.
- Staff will communicate with other key staff members, families and other key adults to support developing positive behaviour choices with identified children.
- Staff will respond to behaviour visibly and fairly. This is done by investigating incidents to gain a deeper understanding of those involved.
- Staff will support students to repair and restore For students who have experienced conflict with another student, staff members have conversations with students to support the repairing and restoring of those relationships when appropriate and when safe and consent has been given.
- Staff will provide strategies for students to reduce the risk of harm to themselves or others.
An effective strategy that the staff are using is to ask guiding questions to children so they can reflect on their behaviour choices. (Copies of these questions have been attached for parents to use at home if they choose to do so). The use of questions takes the responsibility of the behaviour choice away from the teacher / parent and asks the children to reflect on their own choice.
- Is that the right or the wrong thing to do?
- Are you making a strong decision or a weak decision?
- Is your thinking in charge or are your feelings in charge?
- Am I trying to hurt you or help you?
- Are you running away from the problem or are you dealing with it?
TEACHER TIP When talking with your child about their behaviour, always wait until they are calm and regulated. We want children in think logically about their choices. Providing strategies for them to use to calm down or regulate is also a great idea; taking deep breaths, having a glass of water, taking a walk, distracting themselves with something they enjoy doing.

Year 6 - Living Museum Gallery Walk
A part of our unit of inquiry “How we Express Ourselves”, the students in year 6 partook in a gallery walk, where students displayed their own personal ‘Living Museums’. Classrooms buzzed with chatter as students visited each classroom, to read about each other’s lives and learn a bit about how we express ourselves. This activity was a great way to share our experiences in a creative and interactive manner.

LPPS Out of School Hours Care (OSHC)
Hi Families,
I hope you are all keeping safe and well. We have some very EXCITING NEWS!!!!
Our OSHC re-development will be commencing next Monday, 28 February and is due to finish 29 April 29 (end of vac care).
When dropping children to OSHC in the morning and or collecting children in the afternoon, you will be able to access the service via the bottom gate on Hay Rd (we will have a sign).
This will lead you to the back door of the OSHC room, where families can wait outside for staff to sign the children in and out for the service.
Builders will be on site from around 7.00am till approximately 3:30pm daily. They have worked on school sites previously and are aware of the service logistics and safety.
So what does this mean for OSHC?!...
To ensure the safety and convenience for all children, families and staff there will be bunting on outdoor areas as well as the OSHC kitchen which will not be accessible.
We will be re locating our fridges to one of our break off rooms as all mealtimes will be in the OSHC room.
The project will happen in stages, therefore we are hoping to stay in the OSHC room for most of the time. If at any time the builders feel it best for us to re-locate, we will move to the gym area.
We will continue to keep you informed as we endeavour to continue running our high quality service.
Please do not hesitate to contact us at any time, if you have any queries.
We appreciate your understanding and flexibility, it will be totally worth it.

Linden Park OSHC
