Kaurna Acknowledgement

Niina Marni. As we feel the earth beneath us, the wind around us and the sun above us, we acknowledge the Kaurna people, the traditional owners of this land. We pay our respects to past Elders and will work with present and emerging Elders to protect and care for this unique land of ours. We also extend this respect to other First Nations peoples.

Principal's Report

Dear parents, students and families,

School Sports SA Mountain Bike Championships
Recently, three of our more adventurous students, Leo S, Robert L and David W, took on the Sturt Gorge Mountain Bike course as venue for the Year 5/6 State championships. With the support of their parents, the boys were responsible for the maintenance of their bikes and being familiar with the demands of the course.
As a spectator, watching our students navigate the technical demands of the course, left me in awe of their skills, balance and most importantly, their courage. As Risk-takers, all were prepared to put incredible amounts of effort and exercise their judgement over an exhausting track. The course included steep inclines and rutted downhill stretches; filled with tight corners, interspersed with rocks aplenty.
The relay format enabled each of the boys to give each lap their all, before resting whilst a team member took over. Our three man team started strongly, despite there being limited opportunities to overtake, ranking in the top 10 for most of the race. Misfortune struck in our final lap with Leo experiencing a puncture mid-lap, with not enough time to hand-over to Robert or Daniel. Despite this, his grit and determination in pushing his bike up the steep 'never-ending' hill to complete the final lap, saw our team finish a credible 15th out of the 98 teams competing.
Congratulations to Leo, Robert and Daniel and thanks to their families for their support.

Yard Behaviour Expectations Launch - Respect
Friday's Primary Assembly saw the students from Rooms 25 and 27 share their learnings from the Inquiry into sustainable use of water. The students shared a plethora of interesting facts; my favourite being it takes over 1000 litres of water to manufacture a single family-sized block of chocolate. Practical ways that students and families can take action to conserve water, such as taking shorter showers, were shared as actions that each and every one of us can take to make a difference

Some fabulous role-plays gave our budding actors opportunity to demonstrate what all students are expected to practise over the next two weeks, 'RESPECT'.
Students modelled respect for our school, equipment and each other, students and staff alike. If we are successful in practising and adopting this behavioural norm, we will celebrate with an extra 10 minutes of play next Friday and a staff versus student netball match.

Student Free Day - Friday 6th June 2025
The 2025/6 Site Learning Plan focuses on Student Wellbeing under the three aspects of Cognitive Engagement, Belonging & Safety, Resilience & Persistence. Staff will continue with their professional learning; developing teaching strategies that support learners to develop and maintain positive wellbeing. A key focus will be on the strategies students require to: overcome disappointment, persevere when challenged and to manage their emotions productively so that they continue to engage with their learning and others.

Kind regards,
Fiona Voigt, Principal

Wellbeing News

National Walk Safely to School Day
Thank you to all the students, parents, grandparents and teachers who took part in our National Walk Safely to School Day.
It was fantastic to see so many people involved promoting safety on the way to school and the exercise we get from walking.

Wellbeing and Engagement Survey
450 students are currently completing the Wellbeing and Engagement Survey. This is an important way of giving students a voice about the things that matter to them at school and in their lives.
The results help guide us to meet the needs of our students and develop initiatives which aid in their wellbeing development.

Kind regards,
David Molloy, Student Wellbeing Leader and Autism Inclusion Teacher

DID YOU KNOW?
Students having a voice isn't just about them saying what they want at school. The Australian Council for Student Voice states that student voice has four interrelated concepts: voice, agency, advocacy, and partnership.
Voice refers to students sharing their ideas, opinions, and perspectives, and having them genuinely listened to and acted upon. It means creating safe spaces where all students feel heard and can shape decisions in the classroom, across the school, and in the wider community.
Agency is about students having the power to make choices and take action in their learning and school life. It involves building confidence, decision-making skills, and independence, while ensuring students see the impact of their efforts and ideas.
Advocacy occurs when students use their voice to champion causes or make a difference for themselves and others. It goes beyond traditional leadership by encouraging all students to take action, no matter their role or confidence level.
Partnership is about shared responsibility between students and adults. It represents a deeper form of collaboration, where students are equal contributors in shaping learning, policies, and community outcomes, not just included, but empowered to co-lead.

Soccer

Under 8s - Year 2
Linden Park's Under 8 soccer team kicked off their season against Marryatville at Marden on Saturday morning. The team got off to a fast start, scoring a couple of early goals and maintaining strong attacking pressure throughout the first half, finishing 3-1 at the break with great contributions from Harrison E and Harvey S.
Marryatville responded strongly in the second half, testing Linden Park's defence. Some excellent defending by Daniel L and Seb S helped hold off the pressure, but Marryatville proved too strong in the end, with the match finishing 4-3 in their favour.
Congratulations to all players and coaching staff on a competitive first outing. We wish the team the best of luck for the rest of the season!

Under 11s - Year 5
Linden Park's Under 11 team fielded a full squad of 14 players for their season opener against Trinity Gardens at Paradise Primary. The team got off to a flying start with Liam scoring early. After a few defensive efforts, Trinity Gardens equalised to make it 1-1. A composed penalty from Caiden gave Linden Park the lead before halftime.
The second half saw Linden Park dominate, with goals from Arlo, Connor, and Tom. The defence remained strong, conceding only one goal, with Caiden standing tall as goalkeeper. The team finished with a 5-2 win - a fantastic start to the season!

School Sports SA - Year 5/6 Statewide Knockout Netball

On Tuesday, 6 May, Linden Park Primary School proudly fielded both a girls' and a boys' knockout netball team at the School Sports SA Statewide Year 5/6 Netball Carnival, held at Netball SA Stadium in Mile End during Week 2 of Term 2.
After weeks of rigorous trails and dedicated training sessions, 18 talented students were selected to represent our school in this highly anticipated event. The day was filled with excitement and energy as both teams competed in five matches against primary schools from across Adelaide.
The girls' team had a strong showing, winning two matches and finishing with a draw. They worked hard to build their confidence throughout the day and played with great team spirit. It was fantastic to see the group enjoying themselves and supporting one another.
The boys' team had a phenomenal day, winning all five of their matches. Their commitment and effort throughout the training period truly paid off, as they continued to improve with each game. This remarkable performance has earned them a place in the State Finals Carnival.
A heartfelt thank you goes out to all the students for their dedication, enthusiasm, and excellent sportsmanship throughout the trials, training sessions, and carnival. Both teams represented Linden Park Primary with pride, showing great teamwork and camaraderie.
We also extend our sincere thanks to the parents who volunteered their time to assist with transport and provide support on the day. A special mention goes to Chris A for scoring and assisting with the boys' team all day - your help was greatly appreciated by students and staff alike.
A very special thank you also goes to Katelyn Link, who gave up her lunch times over several weeks to train both the boys' and girls' teams, and for her fantastic coaching throughout the carinval. Your time, energy, and encouragement made a significant difference and contributed greatly to the teams' success.
Best of luck to the boys' team as they prepare for their upcoming finals carnival.
