Kaurna Acknowledgement

Niina Marni. As we feel the earth beneath us, the wind around us and the sun above us, we acknowledge the Kaurna people, the traditional owners of this land. We pay our respects to past Elders and will work with present and emerging Elders to protect and care for this unique land of ours. We also extend this respect to other First Nations peoples.
Principal's Report

Dear families and students,
We are over halfway through the year with Learning Journeys a focal point for the term, celebrating the learning of Reception-Year 5 students. Our Year 6 Learning Exhibition is scheduled for Term 4.
School Sport SA competitions continue with our boys successful in the netball competition on Tuesday. We have ICAS academic competitions as well as Festival of Music all to look forwards to.
Term 3 is also a time where students often start to feel fatigued and prone to illness. Please support our school community to stay safe by keeping your children home if they are unwell.
COVID and Influenza are currently being experienced by staff and students alike.
Attendance & Absences
Our Attendance data continues to improve with an average of 93.51%. The most common reason for absenteeism remains Family/Social where families take leave to travel overseas to connect with family. Please note that where families are away for over 12 months, approval needs to be sought from the Department for Education.

First Day at School
As mentioned last term we welcome 52 new learners to LPPS as part of the mid-year take, taking our enrolments to 982 across the site, Reception-Year 6.
To celebrate their first day we have taken photos with their class teachers, across all six classes. Official portraits were taken this week.

Parent Engagement Survey
The Department for Education coordinates an annual survey to better understand the things we're doing well, where we can improve, and what's important to you as a parent.
The information we collect from this survey is driving change for the department.
The survey opens late July and closes midnight Sunday 7 September 2025.
During the first few weeks of the survey window, you will receive an email or SMS from the Parent Survey Team with a unique link to participate in the survey.
I highly encourage you to complete the survey, which takes less than 10 minutes.
Your feedback will be used locally in our school improvement planning and more broadly to inform other key initiatives to improve education in South Australia.
Your answers will not identify you or your child. Only allocated feedback will be provided to our school.
If you did not receive an email or SMS with your unique survey link by Friday 15 August 2025, please check your spam or junk email folders. Otherwise, please contact education.ParentSurvey@sa.gov.au and include our school's name in your email. A new survey link will then be sent to you.
For more information visit the Department for Education website
Warm regards,
Fiona Voigt, Principal
Wellbeing News

Welcome back to term 3. It's so nice to see so many smiling faces on students and parents even though the weather has been so cold.
Q&A on Hay
On Thursday 14th August (week 4) we will be holding another Q&A on Hay, titled "It Takes a Village" from 5.30-7pm. This will focus on bullying at schools and what parents can do to support their child. It will be presented by Bully Zero.
Bully Zero is a company which provides practical and effective strategies to students, teachers and parents to prevent bullying.
An email link will be sent out shortly which will allow you to register.
Friendology
During first semester students have been learning about healthy friendships through the URSTRONG Friendology program. Now you can also learn about Friendology at home with your child.
Below is a link to sign up to the program and the best part is it's free.
For Parents | URSTRONG
If you would like to know more about the program please contact your child's class teacher or myself.
Kind regards,
David Molloy, Student Wellbeing Leader and Autism Inclusion Teacher
DID YOU KNOW?
The chilly months are prime time for the spread of colds, flus and viruses, which can disrupt your family's life for weeks. To help you and your family stay healthy this season, we've compiled these important reminders.
1. Get a Flu Shot: Influenza is more severe than the common cold. Annual vaccinations can lower your chances of catching the flu and reduce its severity if you do.
2. Clean Hands: Practise regular hand hygiene with soap and water or hand sanitiser, especially after being in public places. Avoid touching your face (nose, eyes, mouth) as this is where viruses can easily enter your body.
3. Boost Immunity: Strengthen your immune system by:
- Getting adequate sleep
- Eating healthy foods (aim for five or more servings of fruit and veggies daily)
- Drinking plenty of fluids
- Exercising regularly
4. Avoid Others When Sick: Stay away from sick individuals and keep your child home if they are ill. Avoid close contact with vulnerable populations like babies and the elderly.
5. Safe Sneezes: Teach your child to sneeze or cough into a tissue or their elbow to prevent spreading germs.
*General Safety Tip: Be cautious when using wheat packs, hot water bottles, electric blankets, heaters, and fires. Ensure cough and cold medicines are stored out of children's reach to prevent poisoning.
When to Seek Help
Caring for a sick child at home can be especially worrying. However, there are several options that can help you manage. It's important to know what is available.
- Mild Symptoms: For slight fever, cough, or runny nose, test for COVID-19, keep your child home, and manage symptoms with paracetamol, ibuprofen, rest, and fluids. Consult your GP if symptoms persist.
- Virtual Care: Save a trip to emergency by using the Child and Adolescent Virtual Urgent Care Service from the comfort of home.

Book Week 2025

Term 3 will see our annual Book Week celebrations being held during Week 5 - 18th to the 22nd of August.

National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Children's Day - August 4

Each year on August 4, we celebrate National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Children's Day - a special occasion dedicated to honouring the strengths and culture of First Nations children.
The 2025 theme, "Little Footsteps, Big Future," recognises the journeys that Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children take as they grow, with each step grounded in culture, community, and connection to Country.
Children's Day is a time to acknowledge the importance of these children as the youngest members of the world's oldest continuing cultures. It is also an opportunity for all Australians to show their support, appreciation, and respect for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children, their families, and communities.

Reader's Cup
Last term saw 14 Year 6 teams compete in our annual "Reader's Cup".
Interested teams began to read the selected 5 books over the past two terms and then gathered their knowledge surrounding the 5 books.
The students then participated in quiz type rounds answering questions about the 5 books.
The winners of the event were the "Reading is Fun" team and consisted of Ariel, Chloe, Mia and Tiffany.
The girls had an amazing score of 42.5 out of 50 and then visited the bookseller "Harry Harthog" at Burnside Village.
At "Harry Harthog" the girls chose a prize for themselves as well as assisting in selecting new titles for the senior fiction shelves!
Well done to all of the teams that participated!

Year 5/6 Boys Knockout Netball
Linden Park Secures Grand Final Spot!
On Tuesday 29th July, Linden Park Primary School proudly hosted Round 2 of the Year 5/6 Boys Statewide School Knockout Netball competition on the COLA. We welcomed teams from Happy Valley Primary and Woodside Primary, who made the trip to Linden Park to compete in a high-stakes day of netball.
After going undefeated in the Adelaide South East District Carnival back in Term 2, the Linden Park boys were determined to carry that momentum into Round 2. A spot in the State Final was on the line - and the team delivered in style.
In their opening match, Linden Park cruised to a dominant 36-18 win over Happy Valley Primary. With just one more win needed to secure a place in the grand final, the team rose to the occasion and produced a commanding 44-12 victory against Woodside Primary.
A huge congratulations to the entire team and to coach Katelyn Link for their outstanding efforts and teamwork. We wish them the very best as they prepare for the State Final, to be held on Tuesday 26th August at Netball SA Stadium.
Go Linden Park!

OSHC Celebrates World OSHC Educators Day

School Sport SA - Golf
On Friday 13th June, Year 5 students Mia C and Ollie R competed in the 9-hole Adelaide South East State Final Qualifier at Mount Osmond, delivering outstanding performances. Both students performed strongly and earned qualification for the 12 & Under State Final, held on the 28th and 29th of July.
Ollie competed in the Boys Metro Championship on Day 1, shooting a 68 - a solid effort in a highly competitive field.
Mia competed in the Girls Metro Championship, shooting a 59 (6 over) to finish second out of 22 Adelaide-based girls. On Day 2 - the State Championship - she improved her score to 58 (5 over), securing second place out of 37 girls from both metro and regional areas.
Mia's impressive performance earned her a place on the 2025 South Australian State Team, where she will join the top 6 boys and top 6 girls to represent South Australia at Nationals in Ballarat this October.
We are incredibly proud of both Mia and Ollie for representing Linden Park Primary with such commitment and enthusiasm - and we wish Mia all the very best as she prepares for the national stage!
