Kaurna Acknowledgement

Niina Marni. As we feel the earth beneath us, the wind around us and the sun above us, we acknowledge the Kaurna people, the traditional owners of this land. We pay our respects to past Elders and will work with present and emerging Elders to protect and care for this unique land of ours. We also extend this respect to other First Nations peoples.

And just like that we're almost halfway through the term...

School Uniform: An anti-bullying strategy
Our school uniform is a critical strategy in our efforts to combat bullying; creative a sense of safety and belonging. Through belonging we instil a sense of pride in our school and create a connection to our community. Children aren't placed into competition with their peers to wear the latest trends or purchase expensive items of footwear or clothing creating a division of the 'haves and have-nots'.
As part of our Uniform Code, we allow those students who have represented our school to wear their representative jackets on Fridays, a day traditionally when sport was scheduled.
Whilst we recognise that uniform reduces a child's capacity to express their individuality; there are opportunities for this during the time spent out of school. Children also enjoy personalising their school bags with a range of tags and key chains.
Please continue to support the school to maintain a strong culture of belonging and safety by supporting our LPPS Uniform Code.

Modern Day fables: Room 29 as authors
Students in Room 29 (Year 5) have been asked to write stories with an underlying message for their Year 2 buddy class. Storytelling, as a vehicle for teaching values, has long been used by communities to instil important messages from one generation to the next. Traditionally animals or mythical creatures are used to highlight important life lessons. Many of us grew up with Aesop's fables such as 'The tortoise and the hare,' remembering the message within, i.e., slow and steady wins the race.

Q&A on Hay
Thank you to all the parents who attended our Q&A on Hay last night. We were lucky enough to have Rachel from Bully Zero who gave a presentation on bullying and what is and what isn't bullying, ways parents can keep their children safe, especially online and ways parents can work with the school if their child is being bullied.
Below are a couple of links you may find useful.

Bully Zero | Bullying Prevention in Australia

Online safety | eSafety Commissioner

Also, our Anti Bullying Policy can be found on the school's website or by clicking here.
I have had some parents ask me if they can have a copy of the slides from last night and unfortunately because it was presented by an outside provider, we don't have access to their presentation.
If you have any questions or would like to know more about how bullying is addressed at school. Please contact the school so we can address your concerns.

Kind regards,
David Molloy, Student Wellbeing Leader and Autism Inclusion Teacher

Year 2 | Art Gallery of South Australia

As part of our Unit of Inquiry: "How We Express Ourselves," we visited the Art Gallery of South Australia. In the Studio, we participated in a facilitated workshop inspired by Sue Kneebone. Sue is an interdisciplinary visual artist with a PhD in visual arts from the University of South Australia who works across different media creating mixed media and moving image works.
We also took a guided tour of the Collection Highlights, where we observed sculptures, paintings, fabric work, and Indigenous art. We are open-minded when interpreting and observing the artists art work. We were communicators when sharing our ideas about what we thought the artists were communicating.

Celebrating World Principals' Day

Friday, 1 August marked World Principals' Day - an opportunity to recognise the dedication, leadership, and care that principals bring to their school communities. At Linden Park Primary School, we celebrated our principal, Fiona, in true LPPS style: with a little creativity, plenty of laughter, and a "choose your own adventure" challenge.
Fiona followed a specially written adventure story, making choices that led her to different classes and experiences around the school. Each decision opened the door to a surprise - from navigating runaway chickens and investigating exploding science experiments. The journey then ended back in the front office. Just another day at Linden Park.
Thank you, Fiona, for your ongoing commitment to our students, staff, and community. Your leadership, sense of humour, and genuine care make a difference every day.
