Principal's Report

Fundraising Success - Book Week Disco
Again, the Community & Fundraising Committee has created a community event, bringing together students, staff and parent volunteers. The connection to a school event, such as Book Week, has led to a successful fundraising activity but more importantly a community celebration.
The event sold over 600 tickets, over half the school attending, with the most significant uptake in the early years. With tickets priced at $10 each and expenses restricted to the DJ and gifts, the event raised approximately $5,500. With over 24 parent volunteers and 25 staff participating, it was a fabulous culmination to our Book Week celebrations.

Fundraising Opportunity - Athlete's Foot
Athlete's Foot at Burnside Village has a proud tradition of supporting schools when LPPS families make a purchase from them. A percentage of the purchase is then donated back to our school at the end of each year. The Community & Fundraising Committee would like to remind families that if you are considering purchasing footwear, there is an opportunity to support the school.
Playberry Phonics Program
Since 2023 LPPS has been trialling a synthetic phonics approach in some of the early years' classes. This approach has now been expanded across the school Reception - Year 6 to ensure that students have a strong grasp of the rules and application of written language.
The program is designed to systematically introduce sounds, (phonemes), and the graphemes, (letters and letter combinations), that represent sounds when we are writing. As we are all aware that for almost every Spelling rule there is an exception, so explicitly teaching this information is important to build strong literacy foundations. As learners progress through the school elements of reading; etymology and morphology are introduced as vocabulary becomes increasingly complex.

Father's Day Stall
Next week we will be holding our Father's Day stall with the awareness that not all families have a father as part of their nuclear family unit. As a site we encourage children to acknowledge the contributions of all adults in their lives. Children may opt to acknowledge any male/person who contributes positively to their lives or to not purchase from the stall. We strive to be compassionate towards students who have experienced loss and will be sensitive to those who may find Father's Day celebrations confronting.
Kind regards,
Fiona Voigt, Principal

Wellbeing News

Did you know that good nutrition for children is not only good for their physical health, it also helps them learn?
Children typically get about one-third of their daily nutritional intake during school hours, making school lunch and recess an important part of their diet. Healthy lunchbox choices, including fruit and vegetables, are linked to better physical and cognitive development, improved mental health, and enhanced academic performance.
At Linden Park Primary School students are encouraged to bring food from home with the option to order their lunch from the Linden Park Grocer.
Nutritious recesses and lunches aid in:
- Brain development by improving memory, cognitive skills, and problem-solving
- Stable energy & concentration by enhancing attention and classroom participation.
- Better mood & behaviour by reducing hyperactivity, improves classroom behaviour.
- Physical health & attendance by reducing illness, leading to fewer absences.
Providing a nutritious diet is one of the most effective ways to help children excel in learning and development and shapes their food habits and learning capacity throughout their education years.

A Note from Our Pastoral Care Worker - Vonnie
It's great to be back at LPPS this term after some time away, I've loved reconnecting with everybody. My role at Linden Park Primary School is to provide social and emotional support to the whole school community; Students, Staff and Parents/Caregivers. Below you will see the 2023 snapshot of Pastoral Care Work in schools. This compilation of the survey data assists us to see exactly how Pastoral Care Workers are supporting schools in South Australia.
Thanks again to everyone who has reached out and allowed me to support them in some way. If anyone has a need for support, I can be contacted via the front office.
Learning Journeys Are Fast Approaching!
The Learning Journey is a showcase of student learning, providing students with the opportunity to formally share their knowledge, conceptual understandings, and skills developed throughout their Unit of Inquiry. This experience connects to curriculum content as well as the key elements of the IB Primary Years Programme (PYP), including the central idea, lines of inquiry, concepts, learner profile attributes, and approaches to learning.
Students lead the Learning Journey as a way of reporting on their learning. They reflect on real-world skills by verbalising what they know and by describing the learning experiences they have engaged in. Through their presentations, students highlight how they have collaborated, investigated, researched, inquired, and designed.
This event also strengthens home-school connections, allowing families to see not just what students have learned, but how they have learned and the growth they have made along the way. The Learning Journey builds confidence, nurtures curiosity, and helps prepare students for the PYP Exhibition in their final year of primary school.
Each Learning Journey will begin in the gymnasium at 9:00am with a short overview of the Unit of Inquiry, presented by Nicole, our Deputy Principal. Parents will then move into their child's classroom, where student work, presentations, and displays will be ready to share and celebrate together.

Linden Park Crowned State Boy's Netball Champions!
On Tuesday 26th August, Linden Park Primary's boys' netball team made history at Netball SA Stadium in Mile End, winning the School Sport SA Statewide Boys' Netball Title and becoming state champions out of 46 schools that entered the competition.
Since the beginning of Term 2, the boys have competed in and hosted qualifying carnivals, earning their place in the prestigious State Final Carnival, which brought together the top four schools from across South Australia.
The team had a phenomenal day, winning their opening three matches against McLaren Vale, East Marden and Henley Beach Primary School. Undefeated in their group, they advanced to the grand final for a rematch against Henley Beach.
The final was a nail-biter, with momentum swinging back and forth throughout the contest. The boys trailed at half time and were still down by a goal and three-quarter time. But in a determined final quarter, they rallied to snatch the lead with only minutes remaining. Despite fierce pressure from their opponents, the boys held on bravely to secure a thrilling 26-24 victory and were crowned state champions for the very first time since the competition's inception in 1989.
This is a truly outstanding achievement from all players, who displayed skill, resilience, and teamwork throughout the day.
A very special thank you to Katelyn Link, who generously gave up her lunchtimes over several weeks to train both the boys' and girls' teams, and whose fantastic coaching and encouragement played a huge role in the team's success.
Congratulations, Linden Park - we are so proud of you.

As part of our commitment to providing a safe and inclusive environment for all students, we would like to remind our community that Linden Park Primary School is an allergy-aware school. School Sport SA (SAPSASA) Basketball - Year 5/6 Boys & Girls
On Thursday 14th August, Linden Park Primary School's Year 5/6 boys and girls basketball teams competed in the School Sport SA Statewide Basketball Carnival at the State Basketball Centre in Wayville.
After several weeks of trials and training, 16 players were selected to represent Linden Park Primary. It was an action-packed day of competition, with the boys playing six matches and the girls playing five against schools from across Adelaide.
The boys' team had a fantastic day, remaining undefeated with five wins and one draw. Their outstanding performance has earned them a place in the State Final, to be held in Week 2 of Term 4, where the best primary school teams from across South Australia will battle it out. The girls' team also impressed, showing great teamwork and resilience to finish with two wins.
A huge thank you goes to our students for their hard work, commitment, and excellent sportsmanship throughout the carnival. Both teams supported each other brilliantly and represented Linden Park with pride.
We also extend our gratitude to the parents who volunteered and assisted on the day. Your support was invaluable and greatly appreciated.
