Kaurna acknowledgement
Niina Marni. As we feel the earth beneath us, the wind around us and the sun above us, we acknowledge the Kaurna people, the traditional owners of this land. We pay our respects to past Elders and will work with present and emerging Elders to protect and care for this unique land of ours. We also extend this respect to other First Nations peoples.
Principal's report
Dear families,
With one week of the term left, we are fully engaged in the student-led conferences. Easter will be a much needed break, as staff and students alike are looking forward to a breather as we head towards the holidays after such a busy term.
Staffing Update
We are excited for Rachel Pontifex, our Well-being Leader who is going to work as a Behaviour Coach for three and a half days a week next term and continue working at LPPS for one and a half days. We are currently in the process of backfilling Rachel’s time with a current member of staff. This could potentially impact your child’s class teacher.
Who we are- Room 28
Our Year 5 Students have been exploring, ‘Who we are’, capturing the first 10-11 years of their lives, their role models and identifying the qualities they have that they align with an animal. The task allowed learners to use imagery and vocabulary to make the connections. The results are both insightful and in some instances a little humorous.
Attendance Data
Our average attendance, calculated to the end of Week 9 was 91.4 %. This is certainly a decline from previous years where the average has reached 94%.
I would like to take this opportunity to wish all our LPPS students and their families a happy and safe Easter break.
Foina Voigt, Principal
Numeracy news
Dear Families,
My name is Josh McGuire and I am a Year 4 teacher in Room 23, as well as the Numeracy Coach for LPPS.
As Numeracy Coach, I work with teachers and students across the school from Reception to Year 6 with their learning in Mathematics.
One area I have been focussing on has been allowing students to participate in challenging mathematical tasks that lead to productive struggle.
Challenging mathematical tasks can be designed to allow students of all abilities to experience productive struggle. It is important for teachers to communicate with students that productive struggle is important and it is what mathematicians do.
A 2016 PISA report confirms this, stating that, 'using well-designed, challenging problems in mathematics classes can have a large impact on students’ performance'.
Each term, I would like to provide you with an example of a challenging task, one that you might like to try with your children at home (depending on the age level).
Here is the first one (aimed at Year 1s & 2s) :
- Emma had a $5 note.
- She exchanged it with her brother Sam for some coins.
- What might the coins be? Are there any other possibilities?
1: Sharryn Livy and Peter Sullivan, Monash University, Challenging Tasks Lead to Productive Struggle!, Australian Primary Mathematics Classroom vol. 23 no. 1, 2018.
2: OECD (2016), Equations and Inequalities: Making Mathematics Accessible to All, PISA, OECD Publishing, Paris, http://dx.doi.org/10.1787/9789264258495-en. p14

Premier’s Reading Challenge
20th Anniversary
This year marks the 20th anniversary of the Premier’s Reading Challenge. To celebrate this milestone, the South Australian Department for Education and Child Development are offering an additional challenge with a special bonus 20th Anniversary certificate for the students that complete a second PRC sheet.
If students would like to complete a second PRC sheet (and receive the bonus 20th Anniversary certificate upon completion) they may come to the library to collect a second recording sheet. Certificates and medals will be handed to the students towards the end of the year.
The library team have asked the students to complete their first PRC sheet by the end of term one/beginning of term two. The second recording sheet is not needed to be given to classroom teachers until the beginning of September.
The second PRC sheet for reception students will be completed by their classroom teachers.
Please feel free to come and speak to myself if you have any questions.
Thank you, Russell Hanson, Teacher-Librarian

The 'Covering Club' meets on a Friday morning for an hour at 9.00am to assist in covering (contacting) the new library books.
It is a great opportunity to chat and socialise while assisting the library!
Please speak to the library team if interested.
Thank you, The Library Team
Wellbeing Action Committee
During Term 2, all students in Years 4–6 will have the opportunity to complete the Wellbeing and Engagement Collection (WEC) survey. This survey is a Department for Education survey that collects valuable data on student wellbeing and engagement within their schools.
At the beginning of Term 3, 2022 the Wellbeing Action Committee formed (consisting of six student representatives, two parent representatives, two teacher educators, one SSO/PCW educator and myself as the Student Wellbeing Leader). The purpose of the committee was to explore the schools WEC data and come up with strategies to improve the wellbeing and engagement of students at Linden Park Primary School.
During Week 9 the Wellbeing Action Committee met again to review our targets and strategies.
The areas we are focussing on are:-
- Student engagement at school: Our committee is currently exploring the idea of publishing a student newsletter and having regular visits with classroom buddies.
- Emotional wellbeing: Relocating our Worry Box to a central place within the school, providing activities for teachers and classes during class connect time at the beginning of the day and possibly having a guest speaker discuss resilience at an assembly.
- Bullying: Student members of the Wellbeing Action Committee and myself to write a survey to find out more information about bullying at Linden Park Primary School. Student Wellbeing Leaders to talk about anti-bullying strategies at assembly in Term 2 and myself and students will lead lessons in classrooms that provide anti-bullying strategies.
We look forward to the WEC survey next term and seeing growth and strength in our wellbeing data.
Rachel Pontifex, Student Wellbeing Leader
Year 6: Parliament House excursion
As part of our Unit of Inquiry on How We Organise Ourselves, our Year 6 students visited South Australian Parliament House. The students enjoyed a guided tour of Parliament House with Jack Batty MP (Member for Bragg in the Parliament of South Australia) and listened to a presentation on the role of State Government and Parliament.
Swimming Carnival: Years 4 -6
On Friday , 25 March, Linden Park Primary School held its annual Swimming carnival at Burnside swimming centre. The weather was very favourable and all students took part enthusiastically to earn points for the house swimming shield. The staff /student relay was a favourite with the crowd, with the staff taking out the win this year.
Thank you to all parents who helped as timekeepers and setting up in the morning.
Well done to Baron Z. (Room 39) and Kaitlyn O. (Room 41) for winning the 100m open freestyle events.
The lead in house points changed frequently during the day with the final results being as follows:
- Cleland 252
- Waite 222
- Gleeson 219
- Davenport 211

Cup cake stall
Thank you to the school community for your generous contributions to our Cupcake Stall. We received so many delicious items to sell which helped raise $3,600!
It is certainly a much loved event of the students, plus our wonderful, hardworking teachers were able to sample some of the remaining treats for afternoon tea.
A big ‘Thank You’ to all of our volunteers for the day.
All funds raised will go towards LPPS Court Resurfacing.

From: Marlo & Grace (Room 28) ........
Recently, our class wrote personification poems. Personification gives human characteristics to non-human things like animals. We wrote animal poems which we thought shared our own characteristics. See some of the poems below!
